Tanaisha, on August 12, 2021 at 9:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hey guys ! I’m new to the group ✨ my fiancé and I are planning our wedding in Mexico for 2023. We would love to know your opinions on whether to hire a wedding planner or not because they are expensiveeeeee lol. We are defiantly on a budget. Any information and experiences would be so greatly appreciated Wedding Planner or Not ? 1

Usually I don't jump on the wedding planner train because I am a creative and controlling woman lol. But in your case, being a destination wedding where you won't be able to be present the whole time leading up, I would 100% hire someone to coordinate with down there

Lol that is true ! I just wasn’t sure if some of the destination venues like Mexico come with a wedding coordinator and planner.

Look into a travel agent who does destination weddings. They book your venue, go through all of the details with you (food, vendors, etc). They also handle all airfare and hotel rooms for your guests so you don’t have to worry about doing that. They do cost a little money, but seriously saves you so much stress and time. My cousin does this who specializes in Mexico weddings. You can DM me if you’d like her info.

Congratulations!!!!! Love the proposal! I am totally team HIRE ONE lol. I'm not sure if you will need one for a destination though because I feel like they have their own little planners that do majority of the leg work for you. Not 100% about that at all but if you were in the states...heck yes. I think you have to ask yourself if you feel like doing all that leg work. I am a control freak so it's hard to let go of some of the tasks but then on the days when I'm like forget this wedding lol, I can call on her for assistance and having someone to step in and handle it is priceless. No matter if you have one or not...it will still be stressful regardless. I'd start with doing some research on a few of the resorts your thinking to get married at and inquire about their planning services. Ask questions like how on hands are they? What tasks will they handle and what tasks are you responsible for? I think maybe you could get like a one month planner/coordinator who can come behind you and double check everything before you guys go. Maybe be there to speak with the resort and make sure everything is in place before your arrival. Good luck with everything! Try to enjoy this moment, be patient with yourself and your partner and remember to TAKE BREAKS!!! Smiley heart

I love love love your advice!!!!! I actually emailed a few venues to see if they have wedding coordinators and planners, from the looks of it it looks like they. I didn’t think to ask them how many they had ! So thank you for that. We are defiantly doing a destination wedding this far as it seems to be cheaper. It’s defiantly stressful already so I’m happy I’m starting early. I just want everything to go perfect 💕

No problem and that's great! Starting early is the absolute best; more time to fix any issues that may arise. If we had the chance to go back in time, we'd do a destination wedding for sure lol. So great move!

We’re having a destination wedding, but in New England. I really wanted someone who has a lot of experience and expertise with this area so we hired a planner. I went back and fourth about whether to go partial or full service, but I ultimately wanted someone who could negotiate all of our contracts, deal with room blocks, manage the welcome party, and help me with all the design details so I thought it was worth it.

With an all-inclusive venue with fewer moving pieces we might not have gone full service, but I keep reading that the planner/coordinator that the venue offers ultimately works for the venue, not you, so it’s good to have someone else as well. Some planners have flexible packages based on your needs, so if you need less help with some things they could adjust the pricing to make it more affordable.

That honestly makes so much sense because it’s just a lot to plan yourself, plus the venue planners don’t contact you 2-3 months prior to your wedding from what I understand. I’m working with a travel agent but, it seems like he does the same things (room blocks, website, negotiating contracts, etc) like a wedding planner so now I’m confused on if I need one. We have been interviewing wedding planners now as well.

Hey Tanaisha! Congratulations on the engagement, your finace and you look adorable together! My fiance and I are planning to get married in Mexico in 2023, and was wondering which venues you reached out too who had their in house team of co-ords and planners? I'm not a planner by a long shot, and I definitely need planners in my life. lol. Thanks!

Heyyyy! So we actually decided to push our wedding back to May 2024. A lot of the resorts did not have the dates we wanted unfortunately. We did also visited 4 venues…Dreams Playa Mujeres, Grand palladium, Royalton, and Blue Venado (offsite). Highlyyyyyy recommend blue Venado! We did a taste tasting and the food was amazing! Drinks were amazing! The staff was amazing! There are no vendor fees , and I believe you can go until 1am…the only thing with the other venues were there were no privacy with the weddings…not sure it it’s something you wanna think about. They also have their own house team as well.
