Wedding Planner

Thoughts about having a wedding planner? I do understand it does help take a lot of stress out, but also it does cost money to have that stress load off your shoulders. I have helped with my brothers wedding, and also my friends wedding. With decorations and making bouquets and centerpiece before. Just want to know others input of having a planner or just do things on your own... and have a Day Of Coordinator.

A wedding planner and a day of coordinator are two different things. A wedding planner picks out your vendors and you show up as a guest. A day of coordinator ties up loose ends the month before and mediates with vendors on your behalf, and works behind the scenes to make the day run smoothly. They work with vendors to problem solve when situations arise so that you and fiancé don’t have to deal with it. Your guests don’t have vendor contact information or experience problem solving on the spot under pressure to fit your vision. Working in that capacity takes away from your guests being able to enjoy themselves.

A venue coordinator does not replace a day of coordinator because they are only focused on the venue itself and related policies: making sure doors are open, vendors arrive at the correct spot and everyone leaves on time. They do not do set up or clean up as a day of coordinator will.

If you are wanting to help take away the stress with the last couple weeks before your big day, and it is in your budget to do so, I would 100% say to hire a day of coordinator!
Our florist recommended us to do so and even directed us in the direction of who to work with. We talked with her and hired her on the spot for $700, she talked with us about 2 1/2 weeks before our wedding as to where we are within our planning and what is left to do. as well as go over all the details. This week she is reaching out to all our vendors to communicate with them in order to get our day of timeline setup and to know what time everyone will be arriving the come wedding day. Plus she will be there for our rehearsal in order to help make sure that goes smoothly and timely.
She has officially taken over and most of the stress has melted away and I am so happy that I am not carrying that around anymore! Again if you aren't sure about hiring a wedding planner because of the cost, I suggest hiring a day of coordinator, they are worth it! So that way you can take most of the time to plan exactly how you want, yet in the last stage of planning you will be able to be calm, relaxed and not having the weight of worry or stress on your shoulders.

I personally went the DOC route. I wanted to be able to plan everything myself and not shell out $7k for someone to plan it for me, but I wanted to be a guest at my own wedding the day of. I also didn't want my BMs and family to have to assemble anything or meet the rental company or anything. I'm getting married on the beach so I do not have a venue coordinator, but like Michelle said, a DOC will with all of your vendors and will also help set up and tear down.

I essentially booked a DOC with a few extras. My planner will do all the DOC stuff but is also going to help me with budget things and vendor coordination. But I’m doing all of the booking and talking to vendors. She’s not charging me a full blown wedding planner price and she’s honestly so helpful already and my wedding is more than a year out still. I’d say if you can definitely get at least a DOC. Most people will work with you though in terms of what your actual needs are vs their packages and prices are.

YES! Samantha, i have the same worry... not able to fork out an extra $7k for a planner! and not wanting family and friends to work extra on our special day! Beach wedding was a thought in our mind, but with a big family and friends in our list.. it would be hard to have! Happy vibes sending your way!!

Hi ! No wedding planner for us. I had a lot of fun planning my wedding, the only help I would need from a coordinator would be from a polish speaking person, which I didn't find ;-)
