Wedding Planners not accepting budget. Too low?

Hi! My parents & I have decided we need a full time planner than a partial or DOC (for several reasons—no we're not lazy). I've started to interview planners, found on WW, The Knot & social media. Almost all of them seem really hesitant to work with us when they find out our budget ($20k). Some have even flat out said, unless you plan to add $30-40k, we cannot move forward. However, the budget they would get to play with does not include my dress/tux, invites, or wedding party gifts. I anticipate those items adding an additional $8-10k and are things my parents aren't paying for.

As I reach out to these vendors, should I "revise" my budget to include everything? I thought it would've been wiser to give them an idea of what they had to work with rather than not. Is it unreasonable to think I can find a full-service planner with that budget? I respect how someone wants to run their business, but sheesh where's the range!? Our wedding isn't even in a super expensive city, its in NC.

Oddly enough I have had this happen. We have a 24,000 dollar budget and two DOCs turned us down saying that 30,000-50,000 is a "healthy" budget.

I didn't want you anyway. Bye Felicia.

I'm in Charlotte as well. I have a DOC and her price is incredibly reasonable, maybe a quarter of the other prices! I'm sure she offers full planning as well. We haven't gotten to the big day yet, but so far she has done her job. I'm happy to pass along her info.

OP- That seems like a totally reasonable budget for your area. I would keep looking- there are sure to be some planners that would be happy to work with you! If you just can't find one, I have a good friend who is a planner here in Charleston and I know she has worked up there before.

I think thats bullshit. I'm sorry but a wedding planner's job is to help you plan based on YOUR budget. Not a budget they want to work with themselves. Those types of planners I would have said GOODBYE too. My planner didn't ask for a budget until we were ready to sign a contract, which meant we had already decided we wanted to work together.

Next time someone asks you what your budget is and decides to "not work with you" I would say, "no, we won't be working with you. I'll be happy to give my money to someone else"

Yay Charlotte brides! Agree that you probably just need to keep looking to find a planner who can work with your budget. The ones you've consulted may specialize in larger or higher-end events.

    I'm a CLT bride too.

I've recently booked with Hey Love! Events.

My budget is 25k. So I'm sure she could help you! She has been lovely so far. I've already booked photographer and MUA if you'd like some more vendor in put!

Not to nitpick, but Charlotte is a very expensive city. I just moved away from there, I miss it so much! I think your budget is totally doable there! Keep looking, but include those items you were excluding before.

A good idea would be to find event Planner students looking for experience and would offer their services at a low price or even for free.
