Wedding Planners: Worth the Extra Money?

Kaitlin, on March 28, 2017 at 8:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Hey guys, I got engaged recently and am trying to slowly start making some decisions as to what we want. Do you think a wedding planner is worth the money? Thank you for any and all input!

It depends. Do you want someone to do ALL the research for you?

I myself could do all that. I hired someone for the day of my wedding.

I have everything done I don't need someone to plan for me. I just want someone there to make sure everything is running smoothly. That were all running on time. & all vendors are set up. Oh and most of all that everyone's having a good time.

I searched for someone within our budget as well. I put up a FB post and got tons of feedback. She works for a catering company and does event planning with them. Since we aren't getting married at her venue. She's doing this "on the side" & is half the price if not more than a normal "Day Of Planner"

So far I'm very pleased. It's a good investment I think

If you can afford one I say go for it.

I skipped one just because I love planning and wanted to use the money somewhere else.

Pinterest and these forums were a big help for me.

As for the wedding planner, I personally didn't think they were worth it. However, I guess it depends how long of engagement you have and your availability to plan.

I personally have a hectic schedule, but managed to get everything set with a year long engagement. I felt that gave me enough time to research/plan/etc. I think it's important to note though that I don't think I did a single DIY project. I know I'm not crafty. Therefore, I bought (or rented) everything. If you're crafty, maybe splurge for a planner since you'll be saving in other areas (like decor).

Luckily, my reception site came with a planner for the day of the wedding. There will be someone there to assist with everything during the wedding. Many receptions offer this. Personally, the only time I would have found a planner beneficial is the day of the wedding. Check different reception areas and see if something like that is included.

If it's in your budget, I would say to get one! I hired one for my wedding and she's done so much research on different vendors, budget management and other small things that I don't have the patience to go over myself.

Worth every penny. We gave her our total budget and she came back with 3 or 4 options for each vendor in a format that made comparing them super easy. You are still doing all of the planning but all of their networking provides you with amazing vendors that you might not have found on your own.

I suggest having one. But if that can't work within your budget, then definitely hire a DOC.
