Wedding plasticware-where to start?

FutureMrsGSon, on November 5, 2017 at 3:47 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

Hi all, so I just found out that my caterer does not supply plastic ware for any food. Where are the best places that you've found to order them from? Looking for large round plates for dinner, small round plates for cakes/desserts, and cups.

Can you look for rentals instead?

Otherwise Amazon has really good compostable disposables

Are you having a casual reception,a BBQ or picnic, where plastic would be appropriate?

It’s a casual reception. Not bbq, but it will be “southern comfort food”. Baked chicken, pork loin, Mac and cheese, mashed potato bar, and green beans. Cornbread and rolls.

And there’s 200+ invited. In our area, it’s not common to have actual stoneware dinnerware. Every wedding I’ve been to around this area, plastic ware has been used.

I honestly find plastic silverware difficult to eat with; we only used to use it for sandwiches and salads.

I'm doing the southern comfort food buffet too! Smiley smile

I got the Member's Mark brand (carried at Sam's Club) clear plastic plates from Jet. They were the cheapest I found. They are 9", so a bit smaller than your average 10-11" dinner plate, but they will work for what we have. My caterer told me to get ones a bit smaller than average so people don't overload their plates the first time through the buffet because people often overdo it at buffets and end up throwing away half their food. They are not ridiculously strong, but I carried two salt and pepper shakers around just holding the plate from the edge and it was good enough. When held from the bottom, it isn't a problem at all.

The bad thing for me was that Jet didn't pack some of the shipments well, and so I got a few packages with damaged plates that ended up coming out to about 1 1/2 packages of broken plates. After I sent pictures, they sent me 2 new packages that were packed better.

Edit: Oh, and then I just got some gold paper plates from Target for appetizers, and I'm either going to get more for dessert or get the mini version of the above clear plastic plates (haven't decided yet). I'm getting the same brand of clear plastic cups from Jet as well.

Dollar tree has gold chargers you can order in bulk online. They look like the fancy gold chargers with beaded edges.
