Wedding postponed- how to preserve wedding dress?

Jy, on March 17, 2020 at 1:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
Hey guys!
Completely heartbroken here but trying to stay positive. Our wedding was supposed to be in May and just got postponed (by venue) to October. My question is- what do I do with my wedding dress? It’s still at the bridal shop and I was in the middle of alteration. I have a very white dress and I am worried that the color will fade (or turn yellow). What should I do? Thank you!

    Hi Jy
I'm so sorry 💔 😤 for all you fellow brides to be with upcoming weddings that will have to cancel, your bridal shop may be willing to properly store your dress, if not, I got a dress preservation from Foster Stephens, they have a few options for different lengths.
Do you have a picture of your dress? I'd love to see it!

Definitely still keep it in the bag it came in or buy a garment bag or box for it. If you can lay it completely flat somewhere that would be nice though

Hi Jy! Your wedding dress should be totally fine! Any dress discoloration or yellowing happens over many years. Make sure your dress is stored in a garment bag, and you can reach out to the retailer or designer with any specific storing questions. For example, some beaded dresses should be laid flat or there may be extra loops to protect strain on your dress straps - small tips like that!

I would see if the bridal shop will keep it for you. My dress came in a few months before alterations needed to be started so I paid a monthly storage fee to my bridal shop because I didn’t want to be responsible for anything happening to my dress in the meantime.
