Wedding Programs

Molly, on June 1, 2015 at 10:57 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

I am trying to decide what to do about wedding programs. Is it typical to buy them professionally or print at home? If you do buy them professionally, what is the typical cost? I just seem to be at a loss when it comes to the programs. Thanks!

Most people think they're a waste of money since no guests actually really look at them. I am printing them at home just because I like having projects and keeping myself busy with stuff like that. I think if you want to print them at home, go for it. If you have room in your budget and want to get them printed, do that. If you don't want them at all, that's fine too. None of your guests will notice.

Vistaprint has 'em. I'm planning on getting mine from them so I don't have to worry about matching the front and back up or anything like that. Be sure to wait for a sale.

I know lots of people think they're a waste of money, but we're having a Jewish ceremony and three-quarters of our guests aren't Jewish, so I figure better to spend a little more and make sure everyone understands what's going on.

@Kay that makes sense. I think my friend had one at her Jewish wedding. Super helpful. @Molly unless you have a circumstance like that, I agree with the majority that it's a waste of money and time. Most of the extra paper stuff is. But it'd be pretty easy to print them yourself if you're absolutely set on doing them.

I bought a sturdy cardstock to print mine on. I created them myself. Just the bridal party and ceremony order. I'm making them paper fans because we are getting married at 4:00 in June (19 days!!). I know I shouldn't admit this, but I'm going to print and cut them at work. It prints a lot cleaner and faster! And I'm providing the paper. Luckily I work in maintenance and no one is ever around by my office because I'm in the maintenance building. It'll cost me about $30 total for the cardstock and paper fan handles.

I made mine. 11x17 newspaper programs and printing them at work. I'm almost done with them. I still have to fill in a couple places.

I'm a big believer in deciding what you'd want to put in programs before deciding whether to have them. If you've got a Jewish wedding, a bilingual wedding, or another complicated wedding that requires explanations, they may be helpful. If you're just listing members of the wedding party, it may not be worth bothering them.

If you do use them, they are typically a DIY thing. You can either print them at home, or use something like Vistaprint.

@Dr&Mrs, I'm making my program into a paper fan as well, but unfortunately I can't print them myself. Smiley sad I want our picture on one side and the program on the other.

@Molly, I think printing them yourself is perfectly fine if you are able.

I bought a file from an Etsy vendor who did a great job then ended up printing them on Vista Print.

I really don't think they are a waste at all. I personally have always read the programs, and it can be a very special memento of the day. My mom did her own program almost 40 years ago, and it was so fun pulling little pieces of her day and putting them into mine. Then again, we both did Catholic mass so there is a little more info worth noting in the programs.

There are free templates online that I used and just printed pretty cheaply. Otherwise, Vistaprint always has a promo code and is QUICK!

I don't want them, but with the different languages, cultures and religious customs coming together for my wedding they're necessary. We're gonna have one of the gm design them (he's graphic designer) and then print them out ourselves, maybe through Vistaprint.

I designed them myself on word. If you find a template you like on etsy you can always just buy the template and do everything yourself. We then had the printed at staples. They ended up costing more that I was thinking. I had programs, menu cards and I thought something else, but maybe not. The cost was around or right under $200 to have them printed (they were colored and a little heavier paper), folded, etc.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother. No one keeps them, few take them to begin with....one of my recent grooms literally hid the full basket so his bride wouldn't be upset that so many were left....

I've always liked reading the programs at weddings I've been to. Mostly for the who's who portion of it.

I knew going into it that most people probably would just toss the programs after the ceremony, but I still wanted them. Also, we were incorporating a few religious aspects into our wedding (a Christian reading and a Jewish tradition), so I wanted people to know what was going on, since none of my family is Jewish.

If you want them, go ahead and use them. Just keep in mind that they will probably get thrown out after. If you're okay with that, figure out how much you're willing to spend on them - if anything - and go from there. I used Magnet Street, rather than make them myself, simply to save myself the hassle. A lot of those sites (Magnet Street, Vista Print, etc) usually have decent prices and good sales.
