Wedding Reception games and activities

Danica, on January 4, 2017 at 1:19 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 60

I would love to see what ideas everyone is using for their cocktail hour and receptions for entertainment. We are planning on having a DJ but I need a few ideas for our cocktail hour and for people who don't like to dance. Everything is going to be inside. Particularly, things people can do on their own. Like, a lot of people have activities such as filling out a guestbook or a photobooth. So, idk. What kind of things are you guys doing?

We had a photo booth and a guest book to sign. Those aren't really "games" but everyone was happy with that and with just socializing.

Selfie station, guest "book" it's a giant framed personalized crossword. We have a kids area, but beyond that just delicious food, wine, beer, and good people.

You don't need anything for cocktail hour other than food and booze.

For the reception, for now I just have a DJ. Might throw in a photobooth if I can swing it.

Booze will help with the dancing problem.

Booze is good. Booze is magic.

We are doing a photo booth but it's really not necessary. All but one wedding I've attended had a photo booth and I e never been bored at a wedding. No guest book for us.

Drinking, dancing. More drinking. I don't participate in "games", I'm at the bar or wherever the food is.

We had a thumbprint guestbook, and a "bucket list" where people wrote suggestions for things to do. We also had a ton of food and an open bar, so people kept occupied with that. Originally I had my heart set on little things outside like a personalized cornhole game, etc, but it didn't happen. When I look at the video and pics from cocktail hour, I realize that no one would have even noticed because they were too busy eating, drinking, and talking.

We are having fair themed appetizers and a bluegrass band for the hour. Also, our head in the hole and guest book for things to do!

That's the only activity you need.

You'd be surprised. I went to a casual wedding (like the one I'm having) and my fiance hates drinking, hates dancing, doesn't like mingling, was bored, and they had hula hoops and let me tell you watching drunk people try to hula hoop was so fun!! If you want to do activities do activities. Not all weddings have to be the exact same. How boring !

We had booze, good food, and good music. Thats all that was really needed. We also had a guest book and a Photo Booth as extras. I can barely hula hoop in regular clothes, I can't imagine trying it in formalwear.

All I ever do at cocktail hour is mingle, eat appetizers, and drink Smiley smile If you want to add some lawn games or a photobooth then go for it, but you don't have to plan activities for this time!

If you really want something for cocktail hour besides food and drinks, then I would suggest simple lawn games. Something easy that doesn't require a lot of people or structure.

FH and I play in a cornhole league together so we had originally wanted to have cornhole boards set up at our wedding just because we love it so much, but we decided it wasn't necessary and wouldn't work well with our timeline. The weddings I've been to that have them, they rarely get used- something to think about before you spend any money on them!
