I would love to see what ideas everyone is using for their cocktail hour and receptions for entertainment. We are planning on having a DJ but I need a few ideas for our cocktail hour and for people who don't like to dance. Everything is going to be inside. Particularly, things people can do on their own. Like, a lot of people have activities such as filling out a guestbook or a photobooth. So, idk. What kind of things are you guys doing?

We are going to have wedding Madlibs for those who don't want to dance. A bunch of us used to do them as kids and always ended with laughs. Found some wedding ones....Pinterest was to blame.

We are doing a half hour light cocktail before the wedding and after the ceremony. We consider games. The time is so short. If you have drinks and appetizer the guests will be mingling.

Our event starts at 6pm and ends at 9pm with a 15 minute fire dancing hula hoop team. The wedding is at a large beach house so after the vendors exit at 9:30 the adult swim up bar opens and it become an evening swim.

If you hate drinking, socializing and dancing then why even leave the house? Especially to attend a wedding. I don't understand that.

@fall bride....I think Jennifer said it would be boring if all weddings were exactly the same.... Saying danica should do whatever she wants at her wedding.

Haha wow, didn't expect people who don't like the idea of activities or games to comment on this. We are not serving alcohol at our wedding. Go ahead and bash. Every couple is different and wants different things for their wedding. Our families don't drink. So, we would like people to have options of things to do while we are taking pictures etc. Especially as some of his family does not speak English very well and would not feel super comfortable mingling. So, thanks to those who actually gave ideas!!

I might hula hoop while intoxicated. I definitely wouldn't do it sober.

I thought forums were for getting ideas and talking with people so that you can get new perspectives. I'm just hearing the same thing over and over. I'll just go back to getting ideas from my mom and MIL, thanks.

It's a new perspective from what you had in mind, isn't it?

Also if you're hearing the same thing over and over don't you think there might be a reason why?

This is a new perspective apparently.

Weddings are already awkward because most people DONT know each other. Alcohol helps ease the awkwardness. You aren't helping it be more enjoyable by removing that option for people who do drink, and you're making it worse by expecting them to stay and play games.

Expect 50% of your guests to bail as soon as the ceremonial things end.

Funnily enough, the last wedding I went to was in a reception hall but had a few "lawn games" outside. No one from the wedding played them but some strangers in the park enjoyed them...

I think Blinkus is right. I don't want to play sober games with someone's creepy uncle.

I've only been to one wedding with games and they didn't get played until people were drunk. So since absolutely none of your guest drink -_- then break out the monopoly

You ARE getting different perspectives sweet peach.

This is when we put in our thinking cap and use some common sense.

If you're hearing the same thing over and over again, maybe it's time to reevaluate.

    @LMac lol

Honestly, I can chat it up with a stranger for hours after a glass of wine. I am socially awkward and get anxious in crowds of strangers. After a calm down drink, you wouldn't even know it, I am the life of the party. You would assume I am a social butterfly.

I've been to a lot of weddings that are dry and a lot of weddings with games--they always go hand-in-hand because the bride is trying to cover up the fact that she doesn't have alcohol with childish party games, lol.

Anyway, at dry weddings everyone eats and bails so you don't need to entertain anyone after dinner. Lawn and board games are never played, adults won't usually dance without alcohol and usually the kids dance and don't want to play games so basically @OP you're covered, you don't need any games because nobody will be there too late.
