Wedding reception signs to keep out

Alex, on March 11, 2024 at 1:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 8

Has anyone created signs to keep guests out of the reception space until dinner? For reference, our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception are all on the same property. I don't want people wandering around the reception space, putting their stuff down, moving chairs until it's time for dinner in the reception area. I know this is difficult and doesn't really make a difference on the big day, but has anyone succeeded with keeping people out? What worked? I'm not to the point where I need to hire security. Its more of a want than a need. TIA

Is the reception space indoors? If so, can you ask the venue staff to lock the reception space until 10-15 minutes before cocktail hour is over? The only thing to keep in mind is restroom access: if the only restrooms are in the reception space, then you probably won't want to lock the doors.

It is an outdoor space, under a pavillion so no physical way to keep them out. But that would have been a good idea if was indoors.

Is there a good way to rope off that section? Maybe something like this in front of the reception entrance? (Photo found on Pinterest)

I'll have to check with the venue and see if I can find somewhere to rent these. It would be easy enough to move when it's time to go in. Thanks!

VIP ropes or some type of decorative post spreaded apart far enough where it’s protects the items from being touch or reached.

Also put signs on the ropes stating that this area is closed until the time the reception start

We had a similar setup for our wedding, and trust me, I get where you're coming from. We used signs with a cute little rhyme like, "Please wait with glee, until dinner's ready for you and me!" It kind of lightened the mood while getting the message across.

Plus, having someone from the bridal party stationed there to greet guests and gently redirect them helped a bunch. It's all about keeping that chill vibe without stressing too much about it, you know?

There’s nothing charming about a “keep out, this means you” sign directed at one’s guests no matter how cute you believe its language to be. If you really think this will be a problem I would either have someone stationed nearby to redirect guests to where they are supposed to be or a physical barrier like a rope or temporary wall near the entrance.
