Wedding Reception/ Venue

Maki, on April 22, 2015 at 8:32 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

Good day beautiful people! I've already spent a solid month searching for a venue for my reception. I always wanted something nice, different and that doesn't break the bank either. I found the perfect place at the beginning of this week: The Masker Barn; Berkeley Heights, NJ. I was about to jump at it like a frog but I was TERRIBLY disappointed yesterday when they told me it wasn't available for August 22nd. I tried almost everywhere else that fits what I wanted but I am coming to a dead end. That's why I am asking if anyone knows where I can have the special reception that I wanted. I have roughly 150 people, I wanted to bring my own food, my own decoration. I wanted something that has some indoor and outdoor interaction in North Jersey. Less than $1000 is what I am looking for; or less than $500 lol. Heck the Masker Barn...omg...the Masker barn was $250 for 8 hours for 150 people. Can you IMAGINE?? Sigh..*tearing*. Please help! I'd really appreciate it! Smiley smile

    Can you change your date?

I feel like your cutting it kind of close looking for venues only four months out from the date you've chosen.

I agree with Melanie. If you love it that much, can you move your date? I was considering doing that for mine with the venue I loved, but I found another one that was a bit more expensive that I loved as well.

If this is your dream venue you can either move your date up or push it back. It might be good to push it back since august is only 4 months away

The original plan for my wedding was next year. However, certain things came up and we had to change some things around. The thing is it has to happen this year; I am trying to hold on to what I really wanted my wedding to be like and not giving up until there are no other options.

If you love the venue, I highly recommend changing the date. Also, agree with Melanie, looking for your venue 4 months out is very risky. Most places book a year in advance.

I agree with the other ladies. I think you should consider changing your date. It is going to be hard to find a venue at all for this year as people reserve their venues way ahead of time. Maybe consider a holiday or a Friday or Sunday. Also consider that you will have to make a decision quickly so you can start lining up other vendors.

I really, deeply wish I can just change the date. My pastor gave me two dates for this year. July 26 and August 22nd. He's going to officiate my ceremony and as busy as he is, these were two only two dates for 2015. Sigh, trust me ladies, I agree with all of you. I'm even thinking about going to the Caribbeans, have everything there and get it over with. However, when you are a popular choir singer at your church, people are just all up in their feelings, lol. I cut a lot to get to 150. And the only reason I was not going to use my church building right now is because its being renovated...I'm not even stressing (LIE) lol

I'd move the date, honestly. There are not that many venues that will even let you bring your own food in, due to liability issues. (see botulism post from today)

Try Valley Crest Farms, in Lebanon, Hird Lake, in West Milford, Raritan Inn, also in Lebanon. Rutherford House, in Green Township.

And get used to the idea that all these church people who love you do not need to be at the wedding. Get married at the church, do a punch/cake/cookie thing afterwards and then take you friends and family to a little reception elsewhere.

Thank You Nancy, I see where you are coming from. I will ask now for both dates; july is right around the corner but hey, more pressure could be interesting (I am not being sarcastic). I was also advised to ask for Labor day. I wonder if this is even possible to have a wedding on a holiday. She told me that its a Monday and everyone is off and it might be cheaper; I am not sure if this is true.

Celia, you make a lot of sense; I think I've inquired about most of your list but now I am going to ask for the second date. But then again, you make SO much sense. Why? because my church people are wayyy too traditional and conservative; I might really have to bring my friends and my family somewhere else to "turn up" the right way lol
