Wedding Registry or No?

Amanda, on June 19, 2020 at 1:02 PM Posted in Registry 0 10

Is it worth the time to setup a registry? I've never even looked at people's registries when I go to their weddings, just gave them money or gift cards. If yes, what kind of things did you put on yours?

I think that's fine then if you want to opt out of it ! people would know then to just give cash.

If you're having a shower, a registry is a necessity. If not, you can have one if you want physical gifts or skip it if you don't. We had a shower and registered for upgrades of small appliances like a toaster, seasonal items like hand towels for each holiday, and camping gear.

We already had nice dishes and appliances, but we needed new bedding and matching towels and a few odd kitchen items we wouldn’t normally buy. Most people got us gift cards.

We registered because I was being thrown a bridal shower, so we needed "gift gifts" to open. We registered for things like an instant pot, food saver, new dishes, upgraded towels, as well as board games. We got a bunch of stuff, as well as some gift cards, at the shower and then some of the people who couldn't make it to the wedding sent actual gifts instead of gift cards/money)

I think it is ! There are a ton of lists on Pinterest you can look up that gives a list of ideas for things you might want to consider adding to your registry to make it easier !

It definitely is worth it. Even if you've lived together forever, it's nice to get updated household stuff. Plus, many people do not give cash or fund your honeymoon. If you don't have a registry, people will buy you random gifts you don't want that you can't return.

Bed Bath and Beyond has a registry list on their website to get you started.

I’m in the same boat!! I have everything i want..my boyfriend is fine with the bedding he has, the furniture i have, and we dont need any other material items... BUT we would prefer to have people give us money so we can start a house fund.. or savings in general.

Exactly! But I know our families would buy things and don’t want them to get stuff that we don’t need. I feel bad taking things back that people gift us.

I was initially hesitant to start a registry. My fiancé and I bought our house 7 years ago, so there isn’t much that we need. Once I started registering, however, I realized that it is a good opportunity to replace some of our items that have seen better days (mismatched silverware, cheap college toaster, scratched dishes, etc.) and upgrade to higher quality items (thicker towels). At some point this summer, I am going to go through all of my cupboards and closets and donate the things that are getting replaced to Salvation Army or Goodwill. They still have some life left in them and will be perfect for someone who is just starting out!

I personally always say yes do a registry! There are people out there who prefer to give a physical gift instead of money. And physically going to a store to put things on a registry is so fun! You can ask for anything and everything you might need/want. A good vacuum, nice knife block, new luggage, a dehumidifier, china, spatulas, dinnerware, a new bedspread, sheets, towels, pillows, etc. I loved walking around Bed Bath and Beyond with the registry gun to scan things! It was so fun and we got a lot of useful things. If there's things you'd like but wouldn't necessarily buy yourself, an electric wine bottle opener, or nice picture frame, or glasses, put them on there!
