Wedding Rehearsal and Dinner Timeline

Danielle, on June 5, 2022 at 4:16 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 8

Hi! I am not sure if others are facing the same situation where our wedding rehearsal will be held at 3pm (due to our venues restrictions) and our rehearsal dinner starts at 6pm. If you are in a similar situation with significant time in between the two events, what are your plans between the actual rehearsal and dinner? Many of our bridal party will be from out-of-town, so I was thinking about bringing everyone to a local rooftop bar to show off the area, but I also didn't want to overshadow the dinner or cause more logistical issues. The other option is to go back to the hotel and hang out there before we all depart for the dinner and allow some of the individuals to check into their room if they had not done so already. Last option (I promise, ha), we could drop off individuals at the hotel and bring another group to the local bar. Note: we will have transportation for all movements. Hope this makes sense - would love to hear is others have experienced this same situation.

If the rehearsal time is non negotiable, is there a particular reason why the dinner time cannot be moved up so there is no gap? That is most courteous option, especially when you have many who are from out of the area.

I would say is there a way to make the two times closer so there isn’t a gap? If not I think it would be nice to be able to go back to the hotel and settle in, change, and get ready for dinner. If you didn’t provide the rooftop bar option, people might still make the decision to go out to a bar between the two events on their own. I don’t know, it’s a tricky situation!

My coordinator scheduled this time for much needed photos, that way we are not pressed to take photos in such a short time period during cocktail hour.

Our rehearsal was at like noon and our dinner wasn't until maybe 6ish. After the rehearsal, my bridesmaids and I grabbed lunch, got our nails done, and then finished up some last minute wedding tasks. H and his groomsmen just hung out together at our house. Considering rehearsal will take 30-60 minutes, then transportation to your dinner venue (assuming they're not at the same place), it doesn't sound like you'll be left with too much time in between - I'd just grab drinks at a bar near the dinner venue (and/or allow people who haven't checked into their hotel room yet time to do so, as most hotels don't allow check-in until 3-4pm).

Thanks for your feedback, Marianne! It is nice to know we aren't the only people who have faced this situation before and it sounds like you took full advantage of the time in between. Appreciate your input and opinion - I am leaning towards following your suggestion and grab drinks at a location near the dinner venue and allow people to check into their hotel if needed. Thanks again!

I think heading back to the hotel to let people check in, change if they want, chill out, and maybe grab a drink would be a good choice. That way nobody is super rushed to get anywhere and you can all just unwind a bit.

That’s true too! It will be nice not to be rushed and enjoy the time together- regardless of location! Thanks!
