I guess it depends on the mood you envision that first dance to be - do you want it slow and intimate, quick and playful, with meaningful lyrics or something like an instrumental version without words?


Fiancé and I are choosing Married Life from Up because 1) it’s cute and different and 2) fiancé only knows how to do box step waltz and this works out well. Plus we didn’t want a long song - will have DJ fade out after about a minute and a half.

We decided to go non-traditional, and have a fun, upbeat song for our first dance. Also, it really is "our song" for the last 3 1/2 years, so it's perfect. We're dancing to Shotgun Rider by Tim McGraw.

Find a song that speaks to you and FH. It doesn't matter if it's overplayed. That just means that it's a perfect fit for a wedding. Nothing wrong with that.

Just pick a song that represents the two of you and holds special meaning.

We used “Here Tonight (The Acoustic Sessions)” by Brett Young & Charles Kelly. I had never heard it used for a first dance song and it’s such a pretty, sweet song. It’s one of our favorites (both the acoustic & the regular versions).

Our first dance will be to Heaven by Kane Brown. I personally haven't heard a whole lot of people use it. Maybe you can also check out:

We danced to an acoustic version of "Recycled Air" by The Postal Service. It was at one of their concerts my husband told me loved me for the first time.
