Are you and your future spouse spending the night before your wedding away from each other? Or staying together?

Being with your bridesmaids will be a great way to spend the night before your wedding! Hopefully they'll help ease any nerves.

My fiance and I are planning to spend the night apart. Not so much because of this superstition, but more so that when we have the first look, he will be more likely to cry lol. We've been nearly every night together the last two years (minus the days he went away for National Guard, and the days I worked overnights at the hospital). The separation, I believe, will make the union more emotional. My goal is to make everyone cry happy tears at least once lolSmiley tongue

That's considerate of you to take your parents' wishes into account on this topic! To make it more of a fun night without your fiance, maybe you could invite your closest friends to split a hotel room with you, and do a movie night or board game night or something low key?

That's similar to what my fiance and I are doing! We've lived together for years, and neither of us felt strongly enough about this tradition to follow it (plus we didn't want to pay for two separate hotel rooms), so we decided to stay together the night before our wedding. I also think I'll feel less anxious about the wedding day if he and I stay together.

I agree. We will go our separate ways when we wake up and will be away from each other till that evening. We aren’t even doing 1st look. He doesn’t want to see me till I’m walking down that isle to meet him. 💕 I can’t wait!!! We are both so excited!

That's very generous of you to cover the hotel rooms for your relatives who might not be able to afford them! Best wishes for your upcoming wedding!

Haha, that's an interesting goal! Happy tears are good tears, lol. I agree that the separation will make the first look more likely to be emotional (though not guaranteed). I'm also doing a first look, though my fiance doesn't usually get emotional, so I don't anticipate that he'd cry (and I'm hoping I don't either, lol!).

Very cool that you're following the tradition! Are you doing a first look? Or will the first time you see each other on the wedding day be at the altar?

We're not sticking with this tradition! Neither of us are super traditional and we're both slightly anxious people so it will definitely help us both out nerves-wise to be together as usual in the lead up to the day.

We're also decorating the venue with our families on the morning of the wedding - yikes! Gonna be a long day...

I totally agree that staying together the night before the wedding can help ease nerves! My fiance and I are also tossing out this tradition from our wedding plans. Yikes, hopefully you don't have too much that you'll have to decorate the morning of your wedding!

These days it doesn't really seem expected that we have to follow all the traditional elements of a wedding (or the lead up to one!).

I love seeing people doing things their own way, whatever that means for them!

I also love seeing, especially on these forums, how people make their weddings unique to them! Whether it's following all traditions, picking and choosing which traditions to follow, or tossing them all out and doing everything completely differently, it's awesome to see everyone put their own personalities into their day.

We are staying together the night before because we have lived together for 2 years. I don’t see any reason in staying apart over a superstition.
