Wedding Theme Changes!

Rebecca , on December 29, 2012 at 4:40 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

I've been the girl that has been dreaming of her big day since she was 12 years old. I've been wanting a simple-vintage styled wedding in the fall (w/ colors accordingly). Lately, however, my sweetheart and I have talked. I want him to be as involved as possible and I've given him the choosing the color scheme/theme. We both love Batman (more him than I) and I told him he can choose between Batman's colors (more blue or more gold) and he chose gold. I want this to be elegant, with a subtle yet noticeable hint of the bat symbol throughout. I suppose it'll be more of a "Bruce Wayne Manor" theme than full out Batman, but I still want it to be tasteful. My question out of this long post is about changing my mind. How many times do you think I'll want to change my theme before I can't change my mind anymore? I seem pretty fond of this Batman color scheme, but I also loved the previous one too.. Will I ever be satisfied?? ): (I've posted a few pics with vague starter ideas for this theme).

The best advice my grandmother has given me so far is to follow my heart and stick with the original decision. My question to you is how much are you willing to flex? Including your hubby is great but does it have to be on this (color/theme)? If you have been planning this since 12, I think this is very important to you- go with your heart or a combination of your original plan and maybe a splash of batman somewhere else- maybe on the centerpieces, invitations, groom's cake, etc.

Well, I share the interest on Batman with him and would definitely love to see black, white and gold, especially little bats in some places (but tastefully placed). I'm just worried I won't like it anymore and he will still want it and we'll be at a spot of uncertainty. ):

I definitely want just the small bat (like the cufflinks) and on the decor, but the major focus will be black, white and gold.

The bat will play a part in the Invites, attire, and some decor.

Those colors are classy even without batman... just keep that in mind. What color dress are you wearing?

I'll be wearing a traditional white dress (or whatever shade looks best with gold). I was thinking of a thin belt or accent in black and gold, but I'm unsure about that still.

Your wedding is almost 4 years away, so you'll probably change your mind many times until then. However, it's not a good idea to decide on a theme or colors before you have your venue booked.

My soon father-in-law is the COO of House of Blues Orlando, so it's quite easy for us to get a venue set at a Disney hotel. These are mostly ideas (colors and themes) that we really want and I'm just hoping I don't keep switching ideas around and around until I can't make a decision at all.

Oh, and I know my wedding is a little while away. I'm just a super strict planner that I feel the need to really get things set now before I get too stressed! Haha. (: I hate last minute things, even if I'm 3 or so years ahead of the game.

You have plenty of time to finalize the details. I wouldn't stress too much about it because your wedding is so far away- styles, trends and color themes are going to change several times before you edge your plans in stone. I, personally, love the black, white, and gold. I think it covers your vintage idea, it is simple and very classy. You will be able to do so much with those colors- especially in October! It is ok if you change your mind. It is perfectly normal. And if your hubby knows anything about women, he'll know to except a little changing of the minds. Best Wishes!

So true, WeddingDiva! (: Thanks so much for your help. I know I should take a "chill pill" on the details. I get so caught up in the excitement that I don't pace myself. Haha. Best wishes to you as well!

Not to be an ass, but just in case you're printing the name of your theme anywhere, it's Bruce Wayne Manor.

While you do have a long time to go, you will see tons of things that will make you want to change your mind (ie Pinterest!) I have been engaged for 3 years and as much as I have wanted to change to peacock theme from all the awesome photos I have seen, FH and I are sticking with our original because it's what defines us and not just something we saw and wanted to copy. It will be natural to want to change your mind but stick with your batman theme, it's something that's meaningful to both you and FH, and if you change your mind..theres a good chance you'll regret making changes after the fact. Smiley smile

My engagement will be 3 years when the time comes. I joined here in 2011 and when I posted the ladies kept telling me to hold on because within the three years I was going to change my mind several times and I kept thinking "No I won't, please just answer my question!". But you know what? They were absolutely correct. I have changed my mind a million times in that year and a half alone. I went from a church ceremony to a beach ceremony, and since 2013 is coming we have looked at inspiration pictures and I have now decided my dream ceremony is a garden one so we have changed that. My colors have changed a bunch of times. Bridal party has changed. You name it, we've changed it.

So to answer your question, you will change your mind A LOT of times regarding your theme. Keep folders of each theme you come up with and in time they will naturally eliminate themselves.

Oooh a black vintage wedding dress would be haute! Do a sexy cat eye for your makeup to model after Catwoman. And you'll be ready for Batman

I think a Batman Vintage themed wedding is easier to pull off then a Star Wars themed wedding. Smiley smile And it'll be different. And yours!

My DF told me if he can be in your wedding lol. He love love love Batman! He is so obsessed with Batman. lol Well as you know yourself you could change your mind numerous of times. At first I wanted a butterfly wedding theme and changed it to a Cinderella theme then want to add touches of hearts. So I am going to add a little of everything.

Thanks, everyone! I know that I have a little ways to go before I need to do any serious planning, but am just hoping I don't stress myself out too much by changing my mind. I don't want to end up feeling unsure and unhappy about my final decision. ):
