Wedding theme stress!

Keah, on October 17, 2020 at 8:50 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12
I am getting married in october of 2022, so I have some time. But it'll be a destination wedding (currently in Florida, wedding will be in upstate NY, PA or western OH) and I have relatives everywhere and guests coming from all places so I'm starting early.

Anyway, I LOVE the moody ethereal look especially with elements of romance. But I don't know what to do for a theme? How have you guys picked a theme? Is a theme important? Ugh 🤦🏼‍♀️

A theme isn't necessary. Our wedding didn't really have a theme. We just incorporated things we like. For example, I love sparkles so my dress, our cake topper and the linens on our sweetheart table were glittery. My husband loves sports so our guest books were a hockey jersey and baseball jersey and our escort cards looked like tickets to a hockey game. I think people sometimes go overboard on themes and they actually end up looking childish so I would just try to incorporate bits and pieces of things you and your fiancé like.

A theme is optional! My fiance and I didn't pick an official theme, but through purchasing all of our decorations and ceremony/reception items (guest book, vow books, centerpieces, etc), we found that a lot of our items that we purchased follow a forest theme. If you want, you can hold off on deciding on any official theme until you start looking at decorations and see what speaks to you, and decide a theme from there.

Okay, this makes me feel so much better. I always felt that weddings were suppose to have a theme. So far, my fiancé and I are incorporating things that we love and make it us, which is why we were struggling with a theme haha!

Nope, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. I think whatever venue you decide to go with will also set the mood of the wedding and help guide you towards the style of your wedding.

I have yet to attend a wedding with an actual theme other than a color scheme (and I've attended over 50 weddings!) Our theme was just "wedding," though we did have a color scheme for the invitations, decor, flowers, and wedding party attire. My advice would be: don't feel pressured to have a 'theme' if you don't want to because your wedding itself is enough of a theme! But I would recommend sticking with particular colors for the decor, bridesmaid dresses, etc.

Themes are totally unnecessary and, in my opinion, often times make weddings feel like a child’s birthday party. “Wedding” is enough of a theme.

A theme helps you keep things cohesive like they mesh and aren't tossed together randomly. I don't get why the word "theme" is abrasive when people are happy to tell you what their mood/vision/vibe/aesthetic is, when it's just a different word for the exact same thing.

Have you browsed Pinterest for ideas that stand out to you? They don't have to wedding related. It can be a travel picture or an art piece as your starting point. A pin with your color combo, and various elements that encompass the look you're wanting to achieve and put your own mood board together.
Based on your post, moody ethereal romance is your theme/aesthetic. What colors do you envision? Flowers, candles, something else? Figure out what you like and go from there.

You don’t need a theme! Most people just do colors

A theme is not necessary so don’t stress over that. If you know what colors and decor then that’s all you need to worry about.

Yes!!! When people asked what our theme was, we said "wedding."

Honestly, I don't think I've ever been to a themed wedding, at least clearly not one that blatantly showed itself to have a theme.

Theme's are optional! I personally think the idea you have is plenty enough. Just have colors that go with the look you're wanting and you can even throw some ethereal touches onto the STDs and invites! Little details can bring the look together without you having to go overboard with 'in your face' details that themed weddings often have.

Why can't romance be your theme? Don't stress!
