Wedding Timeline Advice?

Gina, on October 5, 2021 at 10:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

My wedding is coming up very soon, and I recently found out my hair and makeup team is planning to be done an hour earlier than they originally said. When I first asked for a time estimate, they said it would take 4-5 hours, so I planned for 5 to be on the safe side, and I confirmed this with the makeup artist who did my trial (the hair and makeup team are from the same salon and she said that some hairstylists take about 45 minutes per person, but the one assigned to my wedding usually takes right around 60 minutes per person so 5 hours would be right on track). However, when the team confirmed my payment, they said it would only take 4 hours, and that the hairstylist only takes about 45 minutes per person, especially if no one has super long hair (they don't). Did anyone else have this awkward gap of time? Is this down time that I'll appreciate having or should I try to ask the hair and makeup people to come a little later in the morning? Did anyone else have extra time and what did you do during it?

I would try to leave some extra time built in. This way, if things get delayed and hair/makeup ends up taking longer than anticipated, or if they need to re-do any part of anyone's hair/makeup for whatever reason, your entire timeline won't be delayed. I would leave at least a half hour in between the estimated hair/makeup end time and the next thing on the timeline. Worst case scenario, you get some downtime to spend with your bridesmaids! Better to have time to sit around instead of being rushed and stressed.

I would absolutely keep the extra time! Just got married this weekend and had the same thing happen. Planned to be done by 12:30 and were done by 11:30 and definitely needed the extra time for getting ready photos, etc. There’s just a lot of moving parts and having extra time is good.

Take advantage of the extra time! We're getting done with hair and makeup by 12 and my first look isn't until 2. So we're taking that time to eat lunch, steam dresses, and just hang out. I film weddings and there are so many wedding days where everything is back to back to back that there isn't down time. So if you have it, use it!

Good to know! I figured I would appreciate the down time but I was torn between the possibility of extra sleep and extra down time!

That's great. You can relax with your bridesmaids/family and really enjoy the moment.
