Wedding Transportation

Nicole, on March 9, 2021 at 2:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hi All!

We're getting married in the fall. Our venue does not allow parking and we were initially depending on the transportation system in the area we're getting married in. The parking lots and busses are free, however, with COVID, this is no longer an option.

The hotels we have recommended all have free shuttles available for guests and there is Uber and Lyft in the area. Would we be okay not providing a shuttle service/transportation for our guests?

Thanks!

If the hotel provides free shuttle service I think it's fine. Is there a way you can work with the hotel to set specific times where they can shuttle your guest to the venue?

I think so! I think our plan will be to contact the hotels that we have recommended and just give them a heads up so they can plan accordingly and take multiple people at once. We've also put 4:00pm on the invite with an actual start time of 4:30pm in case there are issues.

If you don't have a complimentary room block at a local hotel already, I'd check in with a few to set one up, especially if they'll provide shuttle service! My venue recommended a couple nearby hotels that provide shuttle service to and from my venue for my room block guests. There's no reason to hire another transportation company if the hotel will do it for free! Just make sure they're willing to make multiple trips if their shuttle is small and you have a lot of hotel guests. I also wouldn't rely on hotel shuttles that aren't dedicated to your event, like some hotels offer free shuttles in a 3-mile radius to all hotel guests, but I wouldn't risk your guests arriving late!

Not everyone provides transportation so I think it should be fine. But you definitely want to let your guests know ahead of time that there is no parking.
Just a side idea, have you thought of renting a party bus? Prob not the best ideaJust figured I’d throw it out there

We contacted a few of the hotels in the area and they required that we essentially paid for the entire block of rooms for 2 nights and that our guests would reimburse us. Our coordinator told us to say "Heck no" so we've gone with a list of just recommendations instead. I think I will contact our hotel list and find out where most of our guests are staying and give them a heads up so there are no missed shuttle trips Smiley smile Thank you for your help!

I love that idea! The distance from the hotels to the venue is about 7 minutes driving but that would be a fun trip Smiley smile Thank you for the input!

Normally I would 100% say that transportation isn’t required, but if the venue has 0 parking, I think it would be wise to offer transportation. Some of our friends have rented school buses as their transportation for a pretty reasonable amount of money so maybe look into that as an option?

Oh no, that sucks that the hotels would make you pay for a room block - I would say heck no too! I think your solution is a good one, though! If there are any public parking lots within walking distance, I'd also list those. My (old) venue didn't have it's own parking lot, but there was a $5 lot across the street that I listed on my wedding website so my guests would know where the cheapest/closest lot was located.

This is great, I'll check it out! The town is a resort town so the transportation companies are really expensive but I love the school bus idea
