Wedding Tree Guestbook?!

Mrs. BG, on January 22, 2015 at 10:36 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 10

This may be posted already, but I'm new and haven't seen where to search for specific forum topics just yet. I am a DIY/Budget bride and am having a rustic theme. I strive for different and recently decided to search alternatives to the traditional guest book. In my search, I've come across multiple sites for tree guest books. I'm not particularly fund of having my guests leave their fingerprints, but definitely love the leaf option!

I have all in order except the leaves. I would ideally like to have the leaves off, allow each guest to sign and then attach the leaf themselves in an outline area around the tree. I will be using a canvas. I thought about small trips of velcro (would be less messier for the children versus glue), but am unsure if the sticky piece of the velcro would stick to the canvas.

My question is, has anyone already executed this project successfully and what glue or adhesive did you use to attach the leaves?

Your answers are appreciated. Thanks!

I would definitely not use Velcro, that would just look super janky. Maybe glue dots? Or just have them put them in a cute jar and you can use spray adhesive after the wedding that way you can set it up how you like

to answer the question in how to search it is:

Thank you! I was thinking if I had outlines of where the leaves are to be placed, the Velcro could work. I'll definitely be looking into glue dots. And thanks for the search tip!

I like your creativity but I would be afraid that so many small leaves might get lost before they actually stick to the canvas. I hope it works out the way you want but I would personally just have leaves printed (not finger prints) on to the canvas and guests just sign those instead. Good luck!

What about a manzanita wishing tree? Perhaps you can punch a hole in the leaves and attach ribbon. This way guests can hang on the tree.

Love the idea but sounds a little complicated. I've seen a few rustic wedding guest book ideas on Pinterest. One being a piece of wood like a cross section slab and it said sign our wedding "log". I thought that was a great idea

I'm starting to rethink the whole guests glue their own thing! I am definitely going with the tree, however. My thoughts with not having the leaves pre-printed was the ease of all guests (to include) children being able to sign it without removing it and possibly ripping it. I don't want to discourage children from signing.

I wanted the fingerprint tree and we have a dear friend who is very artsy so we asked her to do the tree for us, I sent her pics of what I was wanting off pinterest and she ended up painting the leaves on the canvas for us (little blue hearts) and a vine around the tree with the same leaves and everyone could leave their initials on a leaf in silver sharpie. At first I was kinda bummed b/c it was not my vision but then I thought to myself this was probably better b/c it would be my luck someone would think it was funny to stick a thumb print way off where it shouldn't really be and then I would be upset. This way there is minimal room for error.

I like your idea but I think it needs some tweaking. I did a fingerprint tree for my wedding in October and I love how it turned out. My cousin is an artist and he dress the tree for us and it turned out awesome Smiley smile

Is there a reason you're not in love with the fingerprint idea? I think it gives a really nice texture to the tree and would urge you to reconsider if you are not dead-set against it Smiley smile

Picture of the tree at the reception and a picture of it on our wall Smiley smile

The leaves are just more appealing to my husband and me. I just super excited about fingerprints (for me)! Yours looks great, however. I am looking into the pre-printed leaves. I am very good at drawing and so is my son, so there are options. I was only trying to make it easier for the smaller guests. I appreciate everyone advice, it's very helpful.

Okay, update brides! I just found a vendor on Etsy who custom makes these with leaves starting at only $36.00 for a 16x20 (includes 100 leaves). The largest is 24x36 for $145 (includes 230 leaves). You choose your fonts and colors! I think (especially after all of your advice), that I'll be ordering from her. She has great reviews as a vendor and I deal with Etsy a lot. I think this will make it easier and it'll be one less thing this DIY bride has to do! Btw... The vendor is "GatheredNestDesigns"

    THANKS AGAIN LADIES!
