Wedding TV Shows

Victoria and Ralph, on April 8, 2014 at 4:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

Has anyone here ever been on any of the big tv wedding shows? (Four Weddings, Say Yes to the Dress, David Tutera, etc.) or known someone who was on it?

What was it like? I love watching the shows and am always curious how close to "reality" they are!

A bride was on SYTTD. . . she didn't end up buying the dress.

Amy A was a guest at a Four Weddings wedding, and I think Celia has been officiant for a wedding or two in the earlier seasons.

I sent in an email for Four Weddings, but never got a reply Smiley sad I don't think I actually wanted to be on it, I just thought it would fun to meet with them and waste their time.

My sister was invited to a friends wedding but was unable to attend. A year later we were watching an Episode of Four Weddings and she was like " hey, I know those people. That's Brittany's wedding"

My previous fiance and I were almost on a Bravo TV show about gay couples getting "married" - (commitment ceremonies were the only option at the time in our state) - Not long after not making it past the last stage of picking the couples, we broke up... :-p

Pezzy-- thank goodness you didn't make it on the show!! It may have indirectly caused you and that guy to stay together!

Not on the show but I did get to meet David Tutera , he came and did a 2 hr bridal event near us and he talked to all the brides and answered questions . He is so down to earth I love him and the way he talks its like he was speaking to me the entire time . How he is on tv is pretty much the same in person . I get so many good ideas from the bridal tv shows they are my guilty pleasure also !

I actually know David Tutera, or knew him.. This may be hard to follow, but he is my mom's ex-best friend's former brother-in-law. David's ex-husband is my mom's ex-best friend's brother. When my mom and her friend were still close, and when David and his ex-husband were still married, we would go out to New York fairly often to visit them. This was probably 5-7 years ago, before David got really famous.

But to answer the original question, I haven't been on any of the shows. I live in metro Atlanta, and my sister keeps telling me to apply for SYTTD Atlanta.

Hardly watch any of them, I used to watch Bridezillas but never watched the others. I miss Rich Bride, Poor Bride. That was the most realistic I think for us planning. Do you really NEED the $400 Ice sculpture? Nope.

I love watching Rich Bride, Poor Bride on Hulu. I also watch Bridezillas, SYTTD, and David Tuterra.

I'm not sure why, but I could never get into Four Weddings.

@Mrs2B - with you on Four Weddings. Something about it is just off to me.

Big fan of SYTTD at Kleinfelds; I'd love to have Randy pick my dress. Monte is fun, but no Randy!

Something Old, Something New is interesting. I don't know how that girl makes anything out of some of those hot mess dresses.

I think I saw a previous post about this topic and someone said they really play up the drama on these. Guess they're just like all the rest of the "reality" shows.

I love Four Weddings - not sure if I'd ever want to be on it though....

Also SYTTD Atlanta is a fave!

If you have Netflix, SYTTD and Four Weddings have a good amount of episodes. There are a few others - Wedded to Perfection, Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? that I have never heard of but I watched because they were on there.

A previous WW poster was on Four Weddings, but didn't win.

I find all wedding shows kind of hilariously gruesome. David Tutera loves to make brides feel like crap for being poor - like, seriously, the bride isn't wearing a garage sale dress because she's tacky, but because she's broke. Bridezillas is blatantly staged. Say Yes to the Dress is exhausting - the New York version because all the brides go way over budget and whine like spoiled little princesses, and Atlanta because Lori is the absolute worst person ever. It is not good business to trash-talk about your customers, and "I need a Cosmo" isn't half as witty as she thinks it is. I think the New York crew is much more professional. Four Weddings takes the idea that weddings need to keep up with the Joneses, and then milks that idea for profit.

I like Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? because it's low on manufactured drama, and it's fairly realistic about everything involved in planning a wedding.

Overall, though, I love wedding shows because they're trainwrecks.
