Hey ladies our guest list is about 150 -180 people. Do you guys think it’s possible to have a wedding under $10k with that many people? My dad is helping us with a venue but would like an all inclusive venue. Any advice?? Thanks!

Hi! I know it varies from where you live, but where I’m at in South Texas I’m doing at a hall.

It is very possible if you get assistance from your friends and family. You could have a picnic themed wedding or even a brunch wedding. Most public parks are free and depending on the area you could find one with a pond or arch. I read recently how a couple had a wedding at the donut shop where they met and offered everyone beverages and pastries and it worked for them.

I would consider, however; how important is it to have 180 guests there. If you limited the list to close family and Bffs you can then get more for your buck and actually get guests that care about you and not what you are wearing.

    Absolutely!!!

when i was planning my wedding, i had 250 guests and i was aiming for 10k or below if plausible. and i actually saw it was possible. however it was a GIANT compromise for what i really wanted so i ended up not going with it. i increased my budget. BUT i am saying, it IS possible. it still would have been nice, it just was something in the end i didn't want to compromise on. so be mindful that you may not get everything you'd want, but that's how wedding planning generally is when your budget is not unlimited.

It definitely depends on the area, but that seems like a lot of guests for a $10k budget. I would say you could do 100 guests for $10k, but unless you live in a really inexpensive area and have access to a free venue or catering, I'm not sure properly hosting 150+ people is possible.

You can easily look up vendors in your area on WW to get an idea of costs. Venue and catering are typically the most expensive. If you can't find a venue and catering for that number of people under your budget, then that there is your answer.

If I remember correctly WW will also "estimate" a budget for you based on location and number of guests. You can also easily look up what the average cost per person, is for a wedding in your area.

We’re getting married in Savannah with an 80 guest list and its >20k. If you’re willing to sacrifice some things, I guess it could work: open bar, flowers, chairs, cake. If you do, let me know!

We’ve actually narrowed our list down to about 125 people. The others we had were just people who my mom wanted to see at the party, people who don’t care about us. I told her I was not willing to pay for someone she wanted to see lol

I feel the same way I should I have to asked for help or what can be done. But I don't think it really be done unless you have alot of ppl helping you. Like with decor DIY things and family is cooking and invitations on the lower end . We have maybe 65 and its I'm trying to keep it under 15k

I think it’s possible depending on how you want to do your wedding! There are so many alternative sites for buying wedding dresses now that help cut down costs for that expense (I’ve heard of people getting dresses on Amazon now lol there’s so many cheap options!) my FH and I are doing a brunch wedding and that cut down our cost significantly! Something else that helped us cut our costs is doing a hybrid wedding with family and closest of friends in person and others attending virtually. The day after the wedding we are going to do a big party with friends only and celebrate with them (at a cheaper cost 😁) this has been a game changer with our budget & guest list!

I think that if the family expects a wedding and will be offended and hurt if you don’t have one, then they should contribute. I think that if you make a list of the number of people you can afford to host and they want to add more people to the list, then it is easier to ask them for money to pay for “their” guests.

Also, I see many people saying that it is no one obligation to pay for your wedding. But people typically get married young, when they are new in their careers or have not had much time to save, so they don’t have money. Yet parents expect them to have enough money to host an expensive party? That makes no sense to me. If the parents want to see a wedding and have any opinion at all about where and how the wedding takes place, how can they expect that their child can meet those expectations??
