Wedding updo at Hair Cuttery - Tacky or worth it?

KristenMeowza, on June 26, 2014 at 11:57 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I'm kind of fed up with my stylist. She keeps dropping the ball with my trial and I've priced around and I'm not willing to spend $125 on my hair or have my girls spend $100 on their own hair (if they wish to get it done). It's such a waste of money. I'm contemplating just making an appointment with a local Hair Cuttery the day of the wedding. It's only like $30 for an updo and I'm sure I'll get the same result. I'd prefer to have someone come to the hotel, but it is what it is.

I'm super cheap when it comes to my own hair. I'm notorious for dying and cutting it myself and when I do go out to get it done it's always at Hair Cuttery. Should I feel bad for not splurging on my "big day" or just say F*** it and do what I want?

Go for it! If they do a good enough job to your liking, there's nothing wrong with it.

Do it! For that cheap you could still do a trial.

Very true. I was thinking next time I'm in the area I might do a walk-in to get a cut and style and see if I find a stylist I like.

Ya, you never know. Sometimes the stylists are awesome, and sometimes they're not. It's about the person, not the salon. I hope it works out - post pics!

Do what you want! I'm all about saving and it does seem silly to spend so much. But I agree with Ashley; at that price, it wouldn't hurt to do a trial!

I'm going to Great Clips...mostly because we're doing our pics on a Sunday and that's the only place that's open. Then I will be going back the day of my wedding to get the same hairstyle. Smiley smile

I'm all for it. I think it was still $50 for Ulta to do ours at a friend's wedding a few years ago, and it looked about the same as my trial last week (which was only $65, so comparable). However, I think most people can wield a curling iron and put up hair with bobby pins. As long as you've got a nice hairspray and extra pins, I think it'll be great!

Do what works for you! If you don't normally fuss that much with your hair, why waste the money if you think you'd get the same thing for $30?

I've had several updos at hair chains - Visible Changes, etc. And they looked great.

There's some great undiscovered talent in those strip mall salons. Every great stylist started somewhere. Give it a trial and see what you think.

I was in a wedding this past April and the bride got her hair done at Fantastic Sam's. It was absolutely gorgeous! Make an appointment with one of the stylist and see how it turns out. if you like it. Schedule your appointment that day.

I had my hair done for prom at Fantastic Sam's and it looked amazing. That was a few years ago, but I'd definitely recommend it! It looked amazing!

If you can meet a particular stylist that you liked and have built a relationship with that can do the job...GO FOR IT! Don't just walk in and expect anyone to do it.

I got my hair done at a similar place called Great Clips. I thought they did a great job and was exactly what I wanted. No trial. No extras, just $35 and an hour later boom, wedding style.

That depends on wether or not the convenience is worth it.
