Wedding upgrades no charge or free gifts

MrsJohnston, on September 26, 2014 at 7:31 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27

So I just got off the phone with the decorator for our venue, she has another wedding the next day at my venue and was wondering if we minded if they hung the window draping's on Friday(before my wedding). The reason being, she wanted to do them herself and wasn't going to be there to decorate for Saturdays wedding.

What does this mean you ask?

This means that I get just over $1,000 worth of window draping for FREE!!!!!(it was something I wanted for the wedding but I couldn't justify the price).

So tell me ladies, have you got any upgrades free of charge, or has anyone given you anything for free?

Our venue has a luxury apartment attached, and it is included for the night of the wedding. I wanted to stay there the night before and use it for the rehearsal dinner so they let me have it for an extra night for $50. It's normally like $280 per night!

My reception venue offers uplighting, has 2 different styled arbors, and this fancy lighted wreath they put under the cakes with a glass overlay. They have several kinds of centerpieces that you can decorate up. They also do NOT charge for this stuff. Yippie!

I got my venue to waive the rental room rental fee for when you don't meet the minimum guests. I got my photographer/videographer to knock off $900 on the service. And my cake lady is making my $500 for $350

The wedding before mine upgraded their chairs to chivari (which I wanted) and my venue convinced the rental place that they should let me keep them for the day because it was a holiday anyway. So I got out of paying $800 for chairs.

We received a 10% discount from both our photograpgher and florist because they are mother and son and we met with our reception venue tonight and found out that our bar package is being upgraded just because FH is a volunteer firefighter for a different department in the same town. Originally he was just including my drinks ( we are paying for beer, wine and soda for the entire reception) and he said if he had known about FH being on a different dept he would have done more. Im happy with a bar upgrade!

My bridesmaid mom is making our cake (and the groom's cake for Thursday) as a gift. I am giving her a small ($50) gift card in her thank you note!

My daughter's DJ offered 3 different priced packages. He gave her everything in the highest priced package at the lowest price, since her wedding is in February, typically a slow time for weddings.

Our phoyographer threw in engagement photos for free to compete against another photographer we were looking at.

DJ gave us a 10% discount

We got a free room for our wedding night because we had over 30 rooms booked. We found out the day of the wedding that they upgraded us to the presidential suite, which normally costs $800 per night.

On our honeymoon H talked to the lady at the gate and she upgraded us to first class for free Smiley smile

My friend made our cake as her gift to us.

We got extra uplights for free from the photographer. We also got a big discount off of his normal fee because we got referred from a friend.

On our honeymoon we got upgraded from a one room nightmare to a townhouse because we complained about the fridge smelling. All I wanted was for the fridge to be cleaned! lol

My venue offers ceiling draping from a company and it cost over 2k for what I want. We've been dealing with the GM at our venue and he said if they have a Friday or a Saturday wedding that has it before us, that he'll tell the guys to just come on Monday to take it down so it can be up for our wedding. Smiley laugh I hope someone else buys it the same weekend. Smiley laugh

Our photographer gave us a 60% discount on his normal prices since he's a good friend of mine. He also gave us a free engagement session and a metal print with it. He'll be giving us a leather bound album after the wedding and is giving us the print release instead of having us purchase prints through him.

We have been told that we will get our reception venue for free because FMIL and FSFIL (Future step father in-law) are volunteer fire fighters there. It has a max capacity of 200 people, already has tables, chairs, and a kitchen.

ETA: We are getting our DJ for $200 for the entire time, ceremony and reception because he is a friend/coworker of FW.

Our officiant is also a friend of FW, but not sure the cost. He offered to do it as soon as he heard about our wedding. I'm sure it's free or cheap. He will get a good tip regardless.

We're getting our photography and video for free!! That wasn't an upgrade though, just a last minute surprise from my coworkers.

Our venue is giving us part of our favors for free, it is a farm and they make homemade jam there so everyone gets a jam from them, and then we're going to tie wildflower seeds with personalized seedpackets I found on Etsy to them =)

Our photo booth was a referral from our DOC, so it was already 15% off! plus they would throw in a designed logo for free! then come to find out they're based out of Seattle area, while our wedding is 2 hours from there. They said they wanted to branch out into the market, since they heard the selection is lacking for photo booth vendors where we are getting married, and so they are not charging us a travel fee since were the guinea pigs.

My DOC was also able to get us a discount on flowers (10%) and transport (also 10%) not sure if these count as an upgrade but hey, it's less money!

Some very cool deals going on here.

Because my venue is off season we are getting all the rooms we are using for the event for free (which is roughly 1,000 at least per room). We also get discounts on the ceremony. Our venue includes cakes/tortes with our buffet which means we don't have to buy more wedding cake.

Or lodging includes a ton of incredible activities for guests and with almost every guest staying there we get to d them all together...things includes free shuttles from our lodging to a big event in the nearby town. These are the reasons why we picked both the lodging and venue! It is also why I was ok having an off season wedding.

Sally the detail of homemade jam with seeds...I am jealous!

We're getting $300 worth of uplighting for freeee. Also, we're getting fancy lighting for the dance floor, a projection on the wall, and a second set up all for free from our DJ. I'm not sure why they're so generous (maybe the whole Sunday wedding thing?), but I'm not aruging. Smiley smile If we paid the prices listed on the webiste for all the freebies we're getting, we'd be spending over $600 more.
