Wedding vendor forged my initials on a contract!!

Aubrey, on November 5, 2020 at 8:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
My fiancé and I decided to cancel our big wedding in April and do a small backyard wedding. We’ve been working on cancelling with all of the vendors that couldn’t be at our smaller wedding. One of which was my hair and makeup artists. I booked them about a year ago and digitally signed a form they emailed me with my information and just stating that they have a $100 booking fee. Nothing else about any policies, refunds, etc. I paid about $1,000 total and now that we are not using their services we were asking about their refund policy. They stated I signed a contract with their no refund policy. My fiancé asked them to email the thread that included this contract. They were not able to, but instead sent a picture of someone holding a physical copy of a contract I’ve never seen (no dates anywhere) and was covered in my digital printed initials. When asked where this came from if there is no email (since all communication was via email) they stated I MAILED IT TO THEM. Where would I have even gotten this contract if not email, and why would it have digital initials if I mailed it. They are refusing a refund and now forging my initials on a legal document. This is now beyond the money for me and I’m looking for advice on if I should take them to court for forgery/fraud and if anyone has had any experience.

That definitely sounds illegal to me! I personally would probably ask the advice of a lawyer, and would try to get the full refund from the company.

I would definitely speak to an attorney about this because that does sound very illegal.

Its definitely illegal and if nowhere in your contract states that the deposit is non-refundable then I think that you have a case. Did you sign something that didn't even specify a refund policy at all? I would never do that, it's VERY risky. Speak to an attorney because I am sure that you can use that $1,000 elsewhere. But also make sure that it's worth it because an attorney may cost more than the $1,000

Speak to an attorney. Make sure you have all of your emails between yourself and the vendor we well as copies of the contracts you actually signed.

Yrs, speak to a lawyer. I recommend you look at options with taking them to small claims court.

Wow, that is so blatantly illegal! With this small amount of money though, I think small claims court would be your only hope of recovering your money. Otherwise, your legal fees will likely extend beyond the $1000 you’re hoping to recover. Good luck! I hope this all works out in your favor!
