Wedding Venue

Wedding itself will be in our church (Catholic ceremony), then reception will be in the ballroom of a hotel where we have the room block for our out-of-town guests, which I hope is convenient for them since they can hang out at the hotel before and after the reception We are also doing the rehearsal dinner at the hotel the night before, in a slightly more intimate room. I'm happy that we're using both gathering spaces at the hotel since they're both pretty in their own ways!

We found a wonderful venue with a chapel and a reception hall right next to it. Neither of us is religious, so we didn’t want an active church (this chapel was built just for weddings), and I didn’t want an outdoor ceremony.

We had a venue/banquet hall that did ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all in the same place. Our venue didn’t come with a chapel but it had a beautiful inside space inside where we had our ceremony. It also had and outside as well for our ceremony but we opted for the inside space.

We originally wanted an outdoor venue, like a hacienda look as an example, where everything is in one location (not religious) and we did did some that were beautiful but we didn’t like the rigid restrictions they had. Daytime only or starts at 6pm at the earliest and ends at midnight but a very tight time schedule they were not willing to budge on, required vendors, not allowed to taste caterers before booking them, etc. All of it being super expensive because none were a blank slate venue that allows for budget options or flexibility in general.


We ended up finding a warehouse that was converted into an event venue in the city and it had what we wanted and the freedom to run as late we want and bring the vendors we want. Even with the rental fee and all of the outsourcing to independent separate vendors, it was cheaper than the all inclusive venues that we looked into, when comparing things we did and didn’t want and weren’t able to negotiate vs what we did want and skipped and didn’t miss.

We plan to do it inside a hotel and then outside at the beach (for ceremony), then back inside (to avoid the summer sun!)

We're doing our ceremony at a lakeside gazebo in a little mountain town. For the reception, we're looking at either renting space in a restaurant for a nice dinner or there's a pavilion near the gazebo we might rent and get catering and set up some yard games

My ceremony is at a little park that overlooks the ocean. My sisters memorial bench is in that park. Long story short my sister passed away of cancer when she was 12. I was born a year to the day that she passed away and my parents paid to have a bench put in the park in her memory. So I made it a point to have my ceremony there. My reception is in a hotel/ball room right across the street from the ceremony.

14 acre Air BnB that backs up to the river in our area. Tons of parking & green grass. There's a little creek that runs through the property. A big house is next to a bigger metal barn fashioned to look like the red, wood ones. It's 2 story & has a pool table, ping pong table, & plenty of room for a just in case it rains gathering area. Otherwise, we plan to hold the festivities outside.
