Wedding Video only 6 minutes long?!

Whitley, on December 30, 2018 at 3:00 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 6

My husband and I got married in May and are just now receiving our wedding video. After months of messaging the videographer and asking where he was in the process, we finally told him we needed it by Dec. 30th for our New Year's Eve party. Based on the edit date on the drive, he worked on it until late the day before we met to exchange the file. We did not have a contract with him since it was our photographer's husband (which we had a contract with the photographer) and he had just stopped doing film on his own and joined a wedding company (he offered to do our wedding since we inquired about it before he joined the company). We only paid $1,000 but I don't feel like it was worth the trouble. Also we watched the video and it was only 6 minutes! I am crazy to expect at least a 15 minute video of our wedding? Should I contact him and express our lack of satisfaction with the video and service?

I do realized I was stupid to not have a contract written up and signed by both parties. They were super nice people and very religious so I didn't think our experience would be this horrible, and boy was I wrong.

I’m sorry this is your experience. I’m not sure there’s much you can do without a contract - especially since short “teaser” videos are incredibly common. You can always share your frustration with the videographer though and write reviews.

If it makes you feel better, we are paying $1575 for 8 hours (we get all raw footage) and a 3-5 minute highlight video.

I feel like every highlight video I have seen was less than 10 mins

Not sure what them being “very religious” has to do with anything. You can ask if there’s more footage, but without a contract, there’s not much you can do beyond that.

He said we would get raw footage too but he would have to mail it to us later. Lesson learned-always have a contract 🙁

I feel like 6 minutes is the average for a basic teaser video which is what a lot of videographers provide. You have to pay more for a 10+ minute video. We paid about $1600 for 10 hours of coverage and a 5-7 minute video.

I think 6 minutes is pretty standard for a highlights video. I think mine was about 8 minutes. I've never seen any longer than 10, definitely not 15 minutes so not sure where you got that number. The majority I've seen are about 5-8 minutes. But without a contract there's nothing you can do anyway.
