Wedding Vow Order?

Ashley, on May 11, 2011 at 5:18 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

FH and I are having our friend become an ordained minister and conduct our ceremony, so I need to find the information that he is going to say. I'm having a hard time finding the order that everything is supposed to be said. We're going the semi-traditional route, but do we have to say more than "I do?" When the minister asks all those questions and you say "I do," is that considered your vows? And then does the ring exchange take place after that? Can the ring exchange be conducted in a question and answer form, like the "I do" vows, where we simply respond with something like, "I will?" Is there anything else that has to be said? I don't want to leave anything out, but I want to "talk" as little as possible during the ceremony, in case I'm crying too much. Thanks in advance for your help!

Go onto the vendors list and search for officiants in your area, on the website it will have several different ceremony vows outlined. Or at least mine did, if yours dont search for officiants with zip code 77486 so you can see the ones from Houston

Awesome question, Ashley! I am so glad you asked this because I am in the same boat. Our friend became an ordained minister in order to marry us, but I'm worried he may forget something.

Hayley I'm going to PM you right now! Smiley smile

Whew! Glad I'm not the only one, Kerry! I searched in the forums for this info, but couldn't find any threads about it! How fun is it that we're having our friends be our ministers!! My friend was SO excited to do it, that when I asked him, he had already done it online 5 minutes later! haha!

They are .doc so I need you to send me your email so I can fwd them to you.

Thanks ~ here is an outline ~

    Order of Service

    Processional

The entrance of the bridal party “All Rise” as the Bride enters

    Welcome

An important moment to welcome everyone on your behalf and let your guests know how grateful you are for their presence.

    Presentation of the Bride

“Who presents this woman to be married to this man?” The father/presenter responds “I do.”

    Opening Comments / Reading

About 7-10 minutes in length. Please refer to the “readings” section for a brief description and samples. Our main objective is to set the tone, and begin the ceremony by reflecting on something meaningful to you. This is a great opportunity to tell your story to your guests.

    Declaration of Intent

“Do you stand here now to give yourselves to each other in marriage?” You respond “We Do.”

    The Vows

Please refer to the “Vows” section for samples. I will lead you in a “repeat after me” format, going very slowly. If you decide to write your own, please use the samples as a guideline for length and content. (Another reading could follow the vows.)

    The Rings

“Do you give this ring as a symbol of your faithfulness to these vows?” Groom answers “I do” and repeats a simple ring vow (see “Ring Vow” section). The Bride responds to the same question with “I Do” followed by the same vow.

    The Kiss

Pronounce you Husband and Wife.. you kiss!

    Signing the Registry

Three documents to be signed by the Bride and Groom and two witnesses. Be sure to have some music playing, relax and “Smile... it’s a photo-op.”

    Closing Comments

This is another opportunity for a short blessing or reading. I thank the guests again for being there. I then present you as “Mr and Mrs...” Tip: Have an upbeat song to go out to!

    The Recessional

Bride and Groom exit with Bridal Party, & first row of family follow

In Fla., you both have to agree to be married and the officiant has to "pronounce you husband and wife."

From all the great info I received, I came up with a rough draft of the vows. I know how much it helps me to see it written in actual dialogue, so I wanted to share the format with everyone.

Welcome aboard! As we gather here today, we invite you all to look show center for the most daring stunt that Raiff and Ashley will ever perform. Each and every one of you are here today because you have enrichened Raiff and Ashley’s lives. They are both honored that you could be here to share in their celebration of love. At this time, please make sure your seatbacks and tray tables are in the upright position; as we invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy this flight.

    Raiff & Ashley.

We are here today to join your lives and your hearts.

Will you now please join hands.

Raiff. Do you take Ashley to be your wedded wife?

Do you promise to love her,

honor her, and be faithful to only her.

    For better or worse.

    For richer or poorer.

    In sickness and in health.

For all the days of your life?

Ashley. Do you take Raiff to be your wedded husband?

Do you promise to love him,

honor him, and be faithful to only him.

    For better or worse.

    For richer or poorer.

    In sickness and in health.

For all the days of your life.

The ring is a circle. It has no beginning, and no end. Just as your love for each other is unending.

Raiff, place this ring on Ashley’s finger and repeat after me:

I give you this ring as a reminder

That I will love, honor, and cherish you,

    In all times,

    In all places,

    And in every way.

From this day forward, you have made a promise,

    To never walk alone.

To stand by each other’s side.

To sleep in each other’s arms.

May you always see and encourage the best in each other.

May the challenges life brings your way, make your marriage even stronger.

And may you always be each other’s best friend and greatest love.

Now that you have each shared these words of commitment,

and we have witnessed the expression of your love, as you have given each other these rings, it is with great joy and happiness that I now pronounce you husband and wife.

    You may kiss the bride.

I present to you Mr. & Mrs. Josey.

    Congratulations.

Ashley - it looks great! Smiley smile Do you know what website your friend was ordained through? Nate (our friend/officiant) is a minister of the chuch of humanism now (LOL). He bought the wallet card and marriage certificate off the website, and now he's good to marry us! Their website verified the state of AZ would honor our marriage if performed by him, but just to be sure I'm gonna do some investigation of my own.

I need to figure out what to do with our marriage license after we're married, since normally the officiant mails it off for processing.

I think it's really cool that our friends are marrying us! It will definitely make the ceremony even more special. Smiley smile

Kerry. "I DO" know what website he used! Hahaha. I'm sure your website was legit. I'm pretty sure I even remember seeing the Church of Humanism. (Haha. All these places are so weird.) I researched a bunch of them, and sent him 2 links to free sites. There was a charge for the certificate. He used:

    http://www.ulcseminary.org/blackWhiteOrdination.php

Another free site I found was:

    http://www.open-ministry.org/create_account.php

In Oklahoma, the newly ordained minister has to take their credentials to the court house, and put them on file, before our marriage. After our marriage, our friend/minister (hehehe) has to take the signed certificate back to the court house. It looks like he just needs to do the same in AZ. http://northernway.org/marriagelaws.html#AZ

It is hard to find information on this kind of stuff, so I'm SO glad we started early! I agree that this is going to make our ceremony more special; having someone who KNOWS us to marry us!
