Wedding website totally private from Google and other search engines

Alabaster, on March 21, 2013 at 11:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hello, It seems all wedding websites allow for password protection, but my preference would be to have a wedding website WITHOUT a password but is a totally private link in the sense that no one would ever find it via a Google search or other online search. That way I can send the link to those invited and they can open it without the hassle of remembering a PW, and so random people (and stalker exes! Smiley smile googling my name or my fiance's name would never be able to find the site. Does this exist?

I don't remember the privacy settings on my wedding wire website, but I know it doesn't come up in searches.

I don't know about hiding it from the almighty Google, but you can make it not searchable from the Wedding Wire home page. When you click on "Wedding Website" under the My Wedding tab, click the settings tab and uncheck "Searchable Website."

I also just searched for my site and it didn't come up, but I did have a password for it. I gave our guests the password on both our STD's and on our RSVP (we used the online RSVP option) -- wasn't too big of a deal for our guests. I think we tend to believe guests will go to our website more than they actually do...

Welcome to WW, Alabaster! I hope you'll update your avatar (the rings) to ANY unique picture (doesn't have to be of you) we can more easily remember you by in the future. This post tells you how to do that and more: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/welcome-to-the-weddingwire-forums-please-read-if-you-are-new/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

My WW website does not pop up in google searches. I dont remember what I did in the privacy settings but I tried finding it under my name and FH name in google and nothing is there. So it is possible! I did put a password on ours though just because I am super private about my wedding details!

Hi @Alabaster and welcome to the WeddingWire Community!

Wedding websites are not automatically set to be password protected, this is a setting you can opt in or out of in the 'settings' tab of the 'Wedding Website' section of your account!

The information you see when you search on google or any other search engine is info that was indexed from WW by Google. Unfortunately when something is updated on WW it does not automatically transfer into Google searches and we have no control over what Google crawls into their index therefore we can't guarantee that your wedding website will be indexed by Google.

That being said, your guests can locate your wedding website 1 of 2 ways:

    - They simply enter your website's URL into their browser

    - Search for your wedding website via WW's homepage by entering your name and your FI's name in the 'Going to a wedding' search box (at the bottom right corner of the page)

    Hope this helps! Smiley smile
