Wedding Websites & Crazy Exes

Mandi, on June 7, 2019 at 5:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
I WANT a wedding website. I want my registry on it, I want people to be able to RSVP and see our engagement photos, directions to the venue. All that good stuff, but there's a little part of me worried that a crazy ex will find it and show up. I have a couple not so great exes, but I have an "ex" who isn't even an ex. We went out a few times, I wasn't interested, and he dated a friend for two years after.
But like, this dude is unhinged for real.
His own mother has an OP against him.
He's sent me what seemed like a 2,000 word essay on how my friends lied to me about him after he was dumped by my friend. (We don't talk about this person.) Because I wouldn't add him as a friend on facebook. He started an anonymous community page attacking random people on facebook, myself included, because I liked a news story.
I assume he's the one that sent me anonymous messages on my professional portfolio website telling me to kill myself 2 years or so ago. (We went out in 2010)

I don't believe I have a way of password protecting my website. (I'm going thru Weebly currently.)
Should I just suck it up and get rid of the website idea?
Just put it all out there and hope this person doesn't show/lands in jail before my wedding?

Am I overthinking this?
Am I being paranoid?
Should I omit information? And if so, what information?

I may not be looking for answers, I may just be venting.

Your wedding website doesn't necessarily need to have your wedding date or venue on it. If you want to include that information, I would go with a different website host that allows you to password protect. Wedding websites aren't a necessity, but they're definitely convenient and, as a guest, I usually check them for details before contacting the couple.

You don't want to have a different mode for hosting the site? There's a ton of hosting sites that'll make yours not visible on Google search either and password protected. I made mine that way because I literally just wanted guests to access it and not strangers to be able to look for it.

You can make your wedding website unsearchable so they have to have the exact link to find it. I have a crazy ex too...

My best friend used a password which was provided on the STDs (not because of crazy people - she’s just a private person). It worked out fine because she made the password something easy to remember.

I probably should. I just spent a lot of time building this one, and it's my preferred platform. My exes weren't on my mind when I started planning.

I know on Zola you can make your website unsearchable and password protected. Their website has been super easy to use if you want to change over. Although I believe weebly has a setting where you can make it unsearchable on google. Double check with.

You're not paranoid, I'm in the same exact boat. Don't let him have control over emotions
Have your website, do what you need to do. He shows up? Have someone call authorities. Very quick and simple. Just tell a family member or even someone at venue that if someone shows up unattended, you'll let them know and they'll attend to it. You deserve to enjoy this process.

I think wedding wire wedding website lets you put on a password.

I don't think you're overthinking things because you know this person and you know what they're capable of. If you think it's a risk then trust your gut.

I haven't ever really dealt with Weebly, but I found this after a google search.
