Wedding week -- Can't sleep!

ENG, on March 27, 2017 at 8:01 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 15

We finally got the week of the wedding -- yay! I've been super organized and everything feels planned. But last night the nerves hit and I just couldn't turn my brain off. I don't want to look like a sleep deprived zombie on my wedding day! Any tips from past brides on how to shut it down and get some much needed sleep?!

Not a past bride, but something my mom taught me a long time ago (and I still use on most nights) is a breathing technique that makes me fall asleep pretty quick. Lay on your back in bed and imagine that you're on a beach. It's warm. It's calm. Then while you breathe in and out very slowly, and deeply, imagine the water is moving with your breaths. So with your first breath, the water may only hit the bottom of your feet, and when you release that breath, the water goes back out (like a gentle wave). Just keep doing this until your either a) fall asleep or b) it reaches your head and you can't fall asleep. If you aren't asleep when your breathing is done, get up and walk around your house for 15 minutes either cleaning or just moving or doing some stretches and try again when that 15 min is over. I fall asleep almost every time before the "water" reaches my hips.

How exciting! Maybe make a list of things that are left to do and seeing it on paper will help relax your nerves on the planning part. Enjoy this week. Smiley smile

Back to confirm that zzzQuil (well, the generic grocery store version) is a life saver! Slept great!

I'm prone to anxiety however I told myself (for my first wedding when I was 24) that anything that needed to be done would be - if anything didn't go as planned, just go with it. I had a couple of cousins over to my house putting together my favors I'd purchased and just kept myself as busy as I could so as not to have my mind wonder into anxiety-mode. The night before the wedding my sister (finally) tried her BM dress on - she'd gained a little weight and was embarrassed (yet, still - you wait until the day before to try it on?) - it was 9PM - I was annoyed but realized I couldn't worry about anyone else's poor choices. Mom called my Grandma and they did a 911 Alteration to fix it. I actually slept pretty well that week telling myself I couldn't worry - that there were many people to help out and step in......nothing would happen without the bride so as long as I got myself where I needed to be I was good!!!!!

Best of luck to you guys - it's going to be a wonderful day........just remember to take a few minutes here and there to just take in what's going on around you - mental pictures of your day.

I have sleep issues pretty regularly. We alternate between unisom and melatonin here.

Zzzquil is awesome. I hope you get some rest. Tea and coloring, baths, lavender oil... all things I use.
