Wedding with lodging vs. outdoor venue?

Sarah, on February 6, 2021 at 7:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hi all,

I have been planning my wedding and expect to have 20-25 guests at my October 2021 reception and ceremony. I have been really wanting to have an outdoor wedding in the near a forest, mainly due to COVID restrictions in Washington state, but most of our guests who are immediate family will be traveling from Oregon or from the east side area of Seattle, Washington.

My main question is what are your thoughts on choosing either a venue that would allow us to stay for 2-3 days and leisurely setup the venue and also has an outdoor covered tent for the reception or choosing an outdoor venue where I would have about 12 hours to get the place ready on my wedding day and have no access to a shower (were expecting that we will be sweaty after our DIY setup and will not be wanting to be in our wedding day outfits while decorating) and only having a getting ready room (inside with heating) for the bridal party. I assume my guests that traveled a long ways might not want to be outdoors for that long which makes me think a place with lodging might be more suitable. Any advice would be really helpful!

When I read your post, it sounds like you like the idea of the venue with lodging better Smiley smile

It sounds like the majority of your guests are going to be travelling anyways, and therefore looking for their own lodging, so you may as well consider finding something that has everything rolled into one! Have you checked out any "camp" type of venues? We checked out some in OR before landing on an actual campground. And we're doing a camping wedding for exactly the reason you mentioned--we don't want just a day of hustle and bustle, we want to be able to settle in and actually spend time with our friends and family. I don't know where you are in WA, but this place looks pretty sweet: https://wellspringspa.com/weddings/

As a guest, I would probably rather stay off-site unless it’s a resort or nice hotel. I’d most likely get an Airbnb at that point to have more privacy.

I would not stay in an Airbnb plus they have restrictions due to Covid. But I agree about staying in an off site hotel and driving to a venue.

There are many beautiful woodsy locations in Western Washington

Not an Airbnb for everyone, I would find my own lodging as a guest. I would not want to be in the same place as other guests for privacy, having more freedom before or after.

Are you inviting mostly or all family? Or is it a mix? I think it would be nice to all be together but with restrictions etc some people may feel more comfortable staying off site and then coming together. An outdoor wedding in the woods sounds beautiful btw!
