Wedding/marriage Superstitions

Someone just told me a new one which I thought was HILARIOUS. Apparently, having a female officiant is bad luck and will lead to divorce. I have never heard this before and I find it so funny and completely misogynistic. What wedding/marriage superstitions have you heard while planning?

Geez no wonder it poured on my wedding day. I couldn't count the number of times I've eaten soup straight out of the pot...

Per my Greek grandparents (and DH parents/grandparents):
-wedding rings on your right hand (the right hand is the hand with which christ blesses and also a place of honor- think right hand man)
-its bad luck to be married in May (goat mating season)
-its bad luck for anyone to wear black to the wedding (black is for mourning)
-for good luck the female relatives of the bride would come over and make the marriage bed, then you throw coins on it (for wealth for the couple) and roll a baby across it (for children)

Sometimes I think people try to hide under the excuse of calling something tradition or superstition. Telling someone that having a female officiant is bad luck is someone just making up excuses to cover their discriminatory thoughts.

I'm a very traditional person but I'm still breaking some superstitions for the sake of being practical, like the first look. I've heard about black being a color of mourning but I've worn black to a few weddings. I also love the black dresses that past users have had.

I've been told about the bows at the shower. However many bows on presents you break is how many children you'll have.

That's all I've heard so far lol

As a kid, I was told that it's bad luck to handle money or otherwise make payments the week of up until the day of your wedding. It *apparently* means that your marriage will constantly be short on money.

    Clearly my marriage is doomed.

But I love learning about all of the different cultural superstitions.

My uncle is Dutch (like was born in the Netherlands) and apparently the belief there is that if you receive a knife set as a wedding gift, you have to send back a penny to the giver. Something about how if you receive knives as a gift, it will cut your marriage apart, but if you pay back the giver, no matter how little, it will break the curse. They sent us the knife block we registered for as a wedding gift, and we did send them back the penny.

These are all so interesting! I've only heard of a few of them. There's one no one has mentioned, that the bride having a penny in her shoe for the wedding is good luck!

Hahaha my mom said that too so I untied or squeezed all the bows off. My mom was so irritated by it! I also was told to keep the bows on a plate to bring to my rehearsal
