Weight lifting?

Rochelle, on March 21, 2017 at 12:44 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 17

So I'm about 100days away from my wedding and I'm still trying to lose weight. I've been doing some weightlifting exercises with a little bit of cardio and have lost only 10lbs. I would like to lose another 10-20lbs and tone up before the wedding. Does anyone recommend continuing to lift weights or should I do more cardio? Are there any supplements or other that you all recommend to help with the fat loss journey?

Weight loss is like 80% diet. Are you tracking calories? Portion control?

Stay well rounded and keep to a routine. My husband is a body builder and he helps a lot with my dieting. I don't lift like he does but I find what works for me is weights two to three days a week, cardio on days where getting to the gym isn't an option and sticking to your diet and as Lindsey said portion control is huge. Drink lots and LOTS of water to help flush out your body. It works if you really focus on your body and what it's telling you.

Aside from dieting--be it portion control and maybe eventually eliminating something like carbs/sugars, processed foods, excess salt/sodium, etc.--cardio and weight training are still great options.

For cardio, biking is amazing and way less impact on certain joints compared to running. If you're close to a lap pool, I'd also recommend swimming.

For weight training, I would do low weight with high reps, as this "cuts" the fat and defines/tones the muscles. This could also give you your cardio if you manage to keep up your heart rate in between reps.

It's important to switch up your routine so your body doesn't get used to anything and thus force you into a plateau. Hitting up the sauna or hit yoga class to sweat out some of the excess water weight could also help!

    Good luck!!!

Do more cardio to burn fat, and weights to help tone. Just remember muscle weighs more than fat!

Portion control is helpful but it's also good to look at what you're eating, not just how much. I started drinking more water and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my diet and it helped. Then I got on a workout routine. Couch25K is awesome cardio and helped me drop 27 pounds, although I did not keep up with it. Zumba is also great.

I can only speak from personal experience but ever since I began adding (heavy) weight lifting into my life I have seen my body change dramatically. I initially went up on the scale but have been going down the longer I lift. I still do cardio but don't keep it strictly to that, it worked for me, but again, I can only speak from my own experience.

Lifting heavy weight will help you see the most difference in muscle definition.

If you're lifting weight you're going to see the differences in your body's definition more so than on the scale.

First of all, congrats on losing the 10lbs! I suggest switching up your routine every now and then otherwise your body gets used to the same exercise. Do cardio one day and then lift the next and keep it fun! One thing that keeps me motivated is my step count for the day. I push myself to get at least 10,000 steps a day. And of course diet is important. Good luck!

Congrats on that 10 lbs! That's a huge accomplishment. I always recommend weightlifting. I life weights and do HIIT (high intensity interval training) throughout the week. HIIT has really helped with fat loss while lifting has helped me get tone and build muscle.

Also, listed to @OliviaP - Ashley Horner has been a huge influence on me for a long time now.

ONLY ten pounds? lol That's great, don't diminish that progress.

FYI Stephanie, muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. A pound is a pound. Muscle is more "dense" than fat, is what I think you meant.

Also, for every extra pound of muscle you put on, you can burn up to an additional 50 calories, so don't stop lifting. If you want to get really lean, my suggestion is to increase the weights and do 30 minutes of heavy cardio. And switch up the different types of cardio: elliptical, treadmill, cardio classes like Zumba, kickboxing, etc.

Are you sore after lifting (24-48 hours later)? If not, increase the weight. Your muscles should feel a bit fatigued near the last 2-3 reps.

Don't pay attention to the scale so much; how do your clothes FIT? You could actually see an increase in the scale, but you'll lose inches throughout your body, so keep that in mind.

I have a nutritionist I'm working with and have lost more weight by NOT exercising myself to death. He has cut back my routine to only 2 days a week Hitt stylebworkouts, light cardiovascular other days. My dress is now floating on my after 1 month Smiley smile but yes it is, totally diet as well. He has be on very low carb on no-hitt days, wit mainly bone broth ,

    veggies and lean fish

10lbs is a lot! It took me 5 months to lose 10lbs last year.

Date twin! I'd like to lose another 5 by the wedding and feel that is realistic. 10-20 just isn't possible. I don't know what you weigh, but a good loss is 0.5-1lb a week, and we're about 14 weeks out.
