Weight loss and Dress shopping

I've lost 20lbs! I still have 45 to go. For months I couldn't stop gaining. Then I was able to stop gaining for almost a year but couldn't manage to lose it. This is huge for me. So pausing my weight loss efforts because of alterations is not an option.

My mom and 2 aunts are flying in 2 weeks to shop for my dress. My aunt is paying for the dress. She told me herself if we don't find it, not to feel pressured to get any dress just because they flew in. So I feel comfortable with that. But if I find the dress I love, it would be great to have them in person. Right now I'm a street size 14. I'm toying with the idea of buying whatever a street 12 is. I know I'm a size 8 at my goal weight. So it could be altered smaller, or not if I stay at a 12 if weight loss slows down. Which it already has. The first 15 flew off and losing from 18 to 20 has taken a month and a half. I do think I can lose all the weight in 1 year though. Has anyone been through this? Any regrets/success stories?

Love the pics Sunshine. Impressive! Congrats to you and Amanda! Thanks Kayla. I feel like 3 sizes will do.

I'm not sure how to ask this. Did anyone think they would have picked a different dress if they had no issues with weight? I'm looking at pictures of dresses and thinking "that won't work with my figure." I guess it doesn't matter since I'll need to get something that looks good on me now and not think in what ifs. And a dress that looks good on me now won't necessarily look bad when I lose weight. Has anyone had this train of thought?

    Beautiful dress, @Kate! I'm swooning.

@Maria I may have picked a different silhouette had I not had any issues with my weight. I love really open backs (dramatic ones that open to the bottom of your back) and would never wear that weighing what I do now, not sure when an open back would be comfortable for me to sport. But I do love my dress and feel great in it. I think things just look different when you're at different weights...that's a hard question! WHile the 2 shops I shopped at had plenty variety in +size, I think smaller sizes have even more variety/options so that could have swayed my decision, too.

I can't even wrap my head around what the runaway bride comment means? You'll look so good you'll leave FH? That's such a weird comment/joke.

I have been eating better and working out the past couple months and have lost 7 pounds my goal is 20. The way my measurements are my chest and my hips make me a size 14 in a dress but only by a half an inch so I ordered the 12.

I'm having the same issue. I'm buying something to fit now. It's sooo much easier to alter things to be smaller than to be bigger.

So I had the same exact concerns, and kept going back and forth on what to do when I ordered my dress last Friday. I've been working to lose weight for the past 18 months and am down 105 pounds. I should be set to lose another 2-3 dress sizes by my wedding next March, but ultimately I didn't want that stress hanging over my head every day for the next 9 months, so I ordered the size I fit into currently (though to be fair, I'm currently between a bridal 18 and 20, so I did order the 18....I think I'll end up being more of a bridal 14 by the time I need fittings done). The lady that measured me at the store said they can alter my dress down up to 3 sizes, so I should be fine.

I also was a little sad to think that I might have more/different dress options if I was able to wait until I lost more weight to order my dress. I see so many that are beautiful, but just don't work on my body. But ultimately I found a dress that I think I look amazing in, even if I don't lose another pound, so I'm happy with my decision Smiley smile

WOW ladies you are amazing!! It is so difficult to lose weight and inches. I bought my dress in Feb. and it fit, but I have been trying hard to diet and exercise and lose at least 10 -20 lbs. So far I'm almost at 10! My dress isn't in yet, so I have time!
