Weight Loss Before Wedding

Haley, on March 23, 2017 at 1:06 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 22

My fiance is wanting to lose about 70-100 pounds before our wedding but we don't know of any good workout routines to help him. We both have busy schedules so its hard to fit in anything more than walking. I want to talk him into trying a few of my Vegetarian food plans but I don't think he will be completely down for it... PLEASE HELP

The best advice I ever got and what works for me is to go to bed slightly hungry. Try to stop eating about 4-5 hours (it depends on the person) before bed and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. I cannot stress how much this has helped me. I have lost 20 pounds so far and (along with paying attention to portions), this has helped me so so much. I'm a stress eater and I always ate after work because of how stressed I was. This packed on the pounds! Just portion food, find some healthy alternatives to favorite foods, and don't eat before bed.

YouTube will be your best friend for work out videos. Also calorie counting apps are always great for portion control also tracking your workouts can help too. I suggest lose it for calorie tracking and MapMyRun for work out tracking.

MyFitnessPal is an amazing calorie tracker app! That combined with my Fitbit has actually helped me a lot. It's all common sense, but with the Fitbit you see how many steps you are taking and it's challenging you to take more. It's a great way to keep track of how much you exercise and how much water you drink as well. Drink tons of water! It definitely helps with weight loss. Just keep a water bottle with you at all times.

Just start, and keep going. Find some way to move, it doesn't have to get complicated,Walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator. Walk to your destinations. Try a class at the gym. Try not to get caught up In the numbers and the "deadline". Remember it's a lifestyle Change! As for diet, limit processed foods, eat more vegetables, prioritize protein sources. Don't force him on a vegetarian diet UNLESS it's for health/ moral reasons/personal preference. If he doesn't like it he will be less likely to stick with it.

I know he won't do the vegetarian diet because he picks on me about it, I do it more of a moral/personal preference. I just don't like eating an animal, it bothers me. He is taking Apple Cider Vinegar vitamins and does a mile everyday, but it doesn't seem to be helping..

How long has he been implementing these changes? It definitely takes time. Any weight loss more than 1-2 lbs a week (at the most) is not sustainable in the long run. Also how are you measuring progress? If you are just using the scale, I suggest using measuring tape on the waist, belly button and hips. I would also reccomend weight lifting. You mentioned thst you guys are busy but there's plenty of bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups , planks etc....that can all be done at home! Building muscle= faster metabolism and more calorie burn when you aren't working out

Weight loss is 80% diet/20% exercise. I have lost weight in the past without any exercise (although, I have learned, exercise is great for your health no matter your size). Find a way to track calories or macros and limit portion sizes. If he creates a calorie deficit, he will start losing weight.

For exercise, you can try HIIT. The workouts are usually on the shorter side and you can get DVDs or YouTube videos that you can pull up at home. Perfect for in the morning before a shower or at night.

Weight watchers has worked for me. I've lost 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks, and my mom has lost 25 in the last 3 months! After college, I lost 50 pounds in about 6 months (and I've kept it off). I've always been active and gone to the gym, it's really the food that I need to personally focus on which is why weight watchers is really helpful for me.

You know that phrase, "you cant outrun your fork"? Diet, not exercise, is what causes people to lose weight. Thats not to say exercise is useless, it brings with it health benefits, and, if you build muscle, can help increase your metabolism slightly. But the main factor to losing weight is your diet. He doesn't need to go vegetarian (in fact I think that would work against his exercise goals), but he should begin to portion control and count calories.

I've thus far lost 20lbs with 0 exercise, other than walking to and from work every day. I also studied metabolism and weight loss in college.

21 day fix extreme was fantastic! I just got lazy on the food preparation part lol but the workouts are only 30 minutes, they show modifiers and you sweat up a strom. My FH just did the diet portion and ran regularly and lost 6lbs the first week and about 5lbs the next (a lot of water weight). I did the diet and exercise and only lost 3lbs the first week but definitely started toning. The set with the cups is pricing but if you're already watching portions you can get just the DVD off amazon for maybe 20 bucks!

If he is already walking, have him try to complete his mile loop faster and see if he can go for longer. Also, see if he is willing to cut out all other drinks except for water (and a coffee in the morning if he needs it). Try to have him eat foods that will help keep him full for longer so he doesn't get the urge to snack. Try to switch to more lean protein like fish and chicken over red meat since he doesn't want to go vegetarian. Have him download something like myfitnesspal to keep try of what he is eating. Try to keep junk food out of the house so he isn't tempted to eat it. Bodyweight exercises to get his heart rate up.

Lifestyle totally! Start with the little things like cutting out soda and alcohol. Incorporate exercise 3-4 times a week. Try not to eat out so much. Use fun programs like My Fitness Pal or even the FitBit is fun to challenge yourself every day. I've done the Planet Fitness training and those are fun to do once or twice a week. And I'm saying the because I am doing the same thing at this very moment. I stopped drinking soda a year ago, stopped using creamer in my coffee, limiting alcohol to only the weekends, and making sure I hit the gym no less than 3 times a week. Sending positive vibes your way!

Just want to point out that vegetarian diets do not necessarily equal weight loss, and are not automatically "healthy" - i.e. cheese and butter are vegetarian friendly. There are many good reasons for not eating meat but it's not a weight loss program.
