Weight Loss Surgery Brides?

Kayla, on July 6, 2016 at 3:04 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 6

I've been in the process of getting approved for weight loss surgery for a few months. My surgeon is suggesting that I have a Duodenal Switch, which will result in 80-90% excess weight loss. I'm curious to see if there are any brides out there that have had any kind of weight loss surgery, and how it impacted their big day.

I'm in the process of approval for bariatric surgery. I'm getting married in almost 10 months, my surgery will be in October/November. I'm going dress shopping right before with the stipulation that I will be losing weight and the dress I get must be available in a smaller size.

We had a thread on this topic last month, and it got a lot of responses. Bumping so that others see this.

I refuse to have any weight loss surgery (I'm going about it the old fashioned way), but I have many friends who had it - including one who was getting married. She said shopping for a wedding dress was a pain because she didn't know what size she's be, and she couldn't enjoy most of the foods and alcoholic beverages at her own wedding. I THINK she had the switch.

I'm going to get the gastric sleeve in order to reach my goal and have plateaued. I'm going to have the surgery after the first of the year though as I just started The process and have several steps to complete first. And my doctor reccomended after the wedding as my dress would be falling off of me!

    I can't wait. ??

I'm (hopefully) having my surgery in November, and my wedding isn't until next December. I'm hoping that by June of next year I'll have lost the majority of what I'm going to lose so that I can shop for a wedding dress without too much stress. From what I've read, a year after surgery I'll definitely be able to eat and drink at least a little bit. Honestly, I wouldn't really mind if I couldn't. I'm having surgery more for health reasons than cosmetic reasons. If I could do it the "old fashioned" way and keep it off, I would, but insulin resistance is a real pain.

I think the dress is more what I'm worried about than anything. And I'm getting a little nervous about being smaller, which is weird to me. I've always been a big person (I'm around 250 now after 30 lbs of weight loss) and the idea of being 150-170 is a little scary to me. Anyone have any advice about that?

@Bailey, I'm really sorry to hear that that happened to your mom. I've been told that that risk comes mainly from a gastric bypass, and that there are ways to avoid it. I'm doing my best to trust my surgeon, and not worry about things that are out of my control. I've seen WLS change so many lives for the better, and I'm praying the same for myself. I totally understand your concerns. It's definitely a little scary, and I'm sure it's twice as scary after seeing what your mom went through.
