Weight loss time! Dress doesn't fit :(

MrsMohan, on July 26, 2016 at 10:22 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 15

So 2 days ago I went back to David's to find a veil that goes with my dress and I ended up putting my dress back on for the first time in about a year. And it didn't zip Smiley sad so I have finally found the motivation to diet and go to the gym! I need to lose about 5-10 lbs to get it to zip. My first alteration appointment is August 18!

Yesterday, I signed up for weight watchers. I've heard good things. Does anyone here have any advice for weight watchers or weight loss in general? I need to specifically lose some back fat.

Thanks!

You can do it!!! Water water water. No soda, not even diet. My dress would barely zip two weeks before my bridal portraits and I just chugged water like crazy, counted calories (1200 a day), no fast food or alcohol, etc and I had dropped all the excess "water weight" and bloat and it fit great by picture day!

Definitely do weights at the gym, focusing on your back and shoulders. If you can do a boxing sort of class, that'll really help to concentrate on toning those areas. You can do the diet thing for free if you find WW doesn't work for you - program, financially or otherwise. I lost 57 lbs in 9 1/2 months using the LoseIt app (free). It's just a tool to use to track your calories and exercise, but I used it to eat 1,200 calories/day and exercised 2X/week. I was down 10 lbs within 3 weeks of starting. Good luck - you can do it, I know you can!!

Weight watchers is amazing. It is a lifestyle change rather than a diet so it is much easier to sustain. It takes a little getting used to and it can be very frustrating at first but don't give up. I suggest doing meetings but online only is an option as well. They have a great community feature called Connect on the app. Let's you connect with others in the same boat for advice and support. Weight loss is mainly about what you eat and very very little about the workouts and exercise you do. It helps and definitely has to do with it, but you can't out exercise a bad diet.

Good luck and you've got this!!!

The same thing happened to me two weeks ago, so I totally understand the panic. I had my first alterations appointment and my dress just barely zipped up. The seamstress recommended I try to lose 5-10 lbs, so I've been trying to follow a lot of the great advice I got on here.

I think the most helpful thing so far has been getting my FH on board. I'm really bad at holding myself accountable when it comes to not eating junk food, so it's really helpful to have him there to remind and support me. We've really focused on cooking healthy meals together, which has been fun and yummy. Down 3 lbs already! We can definitely do it Smiley smile

I've done weight watchers in the past after having my daughter. I loved it. I prefer meetings to online because I think physically weighing in each week holds you accountable and the support and pat on the back for losing each week was motivating for me.

    Thank you everyone!

I definitely struggle with junk food/fast food and my FH is definitely an enabler! lol. I told him he should do this with me and try to hold me accountable, so we'll see how long that lasts. I found an empty bag of chips ahoy cookies in the trash this morning :/

I signed up for the 3 month one for now, i think it includes meetings. I'm going to try to go. I know it helped my mom a lot when she did weight watchers years ago. she had lost 50 lbs.

I'll definitely cut out the soda, but the coffee (with cream and sugar has to stay- that will always be my crutch).

@Bailey, now that i'm on the computer i'll search for your thread, thanks!

I do weight watchers. Love it. Make sure to build a community within there and that will help you feel accountable for success.

Same problem here. I ended up having to exchange the dress because it was 2 sizes smaller than me! After a lot of drama, I'm the Atkins diet (KETO) and loving it. I have sessions with the personal trainer twice a week and try to do cardio the remaining days. I'm 7 pounds down. Stay strong. We'll make it though.

Download the my fitness pal app. Track all your meals and exercise. This app has helped me not go over my calorie intake of 1200 and helped track my weight loss. Good luck Smiley smile

5-10 pounds is pure water weight and a good shit. Definitely do-able. You got this.

I would encourage you to look beyond the wedding- and really work on improving things long term rather than short term. - My fitness pal is free- and does the same basic thing as weight watchers- but without the meetings.

Either one- the answer is eat less- and move more.

    You can do it.

Figure out the points first and then eat! I've been doing weight watchers on and off for 4 years and have lost 132 pounds and I recently joined again to lose my baby weight. My FH is doing it with me and keeps making the mistake of eating and then figuring out the points only to discover he didn't have the points for what he ate lol. Don't be afraid to use your weekly points and to indulge once in awhile, don't feel like you have to give up everything you love! Also if you have a bad day don't let it turn into a bad week. Check out emilybitesblog.com for amazing healthy comfort food recipes also. I've made so many of her recipes and they have all been awesome.

And don't forget to track all of your bites, licks, and tastes (BLT's) they all add up. If you don't know the point values of something guesstimate the best you can and track track track!

I bet you could get FH involved if you make it competitive! See who can lose the greatest percentage of weight by X date. I say go by percentage because it will be more fair. If a 200 pound man and a 150 pound woman each lose 10 pounds, the guy has only lost 5% body weight and the woman has lost closer to 7% body weight! So I'd say she's the winner, even though you lost the same number of pounds. You could also go by inches lost (measure waist, hips, thighs, etc.) or body fat percentage. Winner gets a reward of some kind. Maybe winner gets to pick the next movie you see in theaters/restaurant for date night, Loser's treat. Maybe winner gets an "adult" reward....Smiley winking

FH getting on board with you will be a huge key to success. If FH didn't support healthy eating and regular exercise, I know I'd fall off the wagon. I second the WW love. I lost a dramatic amount of weight in my late teens and early twenties using WW. I also love Beachbody programs like 21 Day Fix mentioned above, though my favorite is Insanity.

You could also sign up for an event, like a 5k, color run, mud run, anything that interests you! There's nothing like a deadline to get you out training. Even though you kinda already have a deadline. Then if you still want to compete with FH, you could see who finishes the race with the fastest time Smiley smile Can you tell I like to compete?
