Weight loss?!

VICTORIA, on June 27, 2020 at 10:04 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 19

Alright guys, I have struggled my entire life with my weight. Basically, I have an underactive thyroid...but not so bad that the doctors feel I should be diagnosed with hypothryoidism and put on meds.

My alterations are at the end of August. With all the gyms closed, I can't really work out- heck, even the gym at my apartment complex is closed. Obviously, I understand the reasoning and am a-okay with that. I go on multiple walks a day with my dog (avg 8k steps per day). I'm also starting a new job at a school (NY opened their summer programs) so I'll get plenty of physical activity there.

I'm just wondering if you guys have any diet tips or meal plans you feel comfortable sharing? I'm only looking to lose like 20 pounds by the end of August. I tried keto, I did AWESOME, but then it wrecked my gallbladder and I had to have that removed. Haha, I'm telling you WEIGHT ISSUES MY WHOLE LIFE.

I'm happy to provide more specifics about the diet I currently eat. I do see a nutritionist/dietician- but even they struggle to understand my issues with weight loss since, in their words, I'm "doing everything right" (yet still won't put me on any thyroid medication for my underactive thryroid -_-)

HELP! I'm open to any suggestions.

Oh man. I get it. I'm on meds for it and it's actually helped with getting it balanced back (but I still slack to take it Smiley cry ). The way I eat definitely doesn't help either. FH and I are actually starting with a personal trainer next weekend over video so if that's something else you'd like to consider, you can do that as well so you can still get a decent work out in on top of your steps. We found our trainer on Thumbtack. Highly recommended site.

I didn't even think to check out an online personal trainer, that is such a great idea! I will check that out, thank you!

I honestly just wish the doctors would listen to me. I have all the "tell-tale" symptoms of hypothyroidism (but didn't even realize it until I did more research) and I'm at a VERY LOW normal range for FT4 and TSH. Idk...just venting at this point haha.

My advice would be to get a new endocrinologist. There are plenty of endos out there who listen to your body, not just the lab results--you just have to find the right doctor. Losing weight with a hypothyroidism is excruciatingly difficult. If you're on the very low normal range, then I would find a new doctor who can put you on a low dose of meds.

No worries. It's stressful. I only lucked out with meds cause FFIL is a doctor. I started having some pregnancy symptoms so when the home test came back negative, FFIL ordered a blood test. That's when we found out it's hypothyroidism. Anyway lol, I hope you find a trainer. With Thumbtack, it also has a tag next to the name on who offers virtual work outs so you don't have to continue to guess who does and doesn't. Good luck!

One of my bridesmaids and I have been using Noom. I’ve lost 10 lbs so far and she has lost 15. I highly recommended it, lots of psychology on weight loss involved. It can be expensive but there are quite a few promo codes online that can bring the price down significantly.

I've actually never seen an endocrinologist. My PCP and Dietician ordered the tests and reviewed the results.

At this point I think seeing an endocrinologist is necessary. I'm very low normal range on the TF4 and TSH. From my research that's a clear sign of a thyroid issues (even more with all my symptoms).

I feel like I'm just not being listened to. It's very frustrating. I will research endocrinologists in my area. Thank you so much!

No problem. By the way, if your FT4 is too low and your TSH is too high, then a reputable endocrinologist should have no problem getting you an a low dose of levothyroxine or a similar medication. Once your levels are back to normal, losing weight will be SO much easier! If both your FT4 and TSH are low, then that could be a different issue--but you'd need to see an endocrinologist anyway to address it. Best of luck

I’ve just started weight watchers again and so far I’ve lost 5 lbs. I know the first 5-10 lbs are just water weight, but in the past when I did it I lost 25 lbs. I like it because you can eat what you want as long as you portion everything out. If you don’t want to pay for a service, maybe try MyFitnessPal? I’ve also just recently started doing at home workouts through a group out of Australia/England called Team Body Project and their workouts are AWESOME. I also walk my dog but wanted a little something more to add and their workouts are perfect and free!

Hi Cassandra, can you tell me more about Noom? How does it work? What type of program is this and what are the costs?

You can still do some resistance training Without a gym. pinterest has tons of fun little 10 minute workouts you can do at home. a dietitian cannot put you on thyroid medication that would need to come from your doctor

I'm not saying to follow what I did, but I basically lost weight by skipping breakfast and by walking more often.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after having irregular periods by by NP PCP. Get a second opinion with another PCP or ask for a referral for endocrinology. Even though I am on meds I STRUGGLE so hard to lose weight. I do cardio or weights at least 3-4 x a week and have been trying to improve my diet but I’ve been at a standstill with my weight for the last year. It’s all in your diet mostly so limit take out, fried foods, calorie dense drinks etc. I think i struggle hard because of diet. FH is soo picky so I end up eating picky eater food Smiley sad

Noom is an app you can download. After answering a set of questions you are ready to begin. Each day you are given a set of articles pertaining to weight loss. There is also calorie tracking, recipes and a weight graph. Eventually in the program you will be given a personal weight loss coach and be put into a group of other people using Noom to discuss challenges and successes. It’s a 2 month program cost is like $100 but I found a promo code that brought it down to $40. The first week or 14 days is free.

Don't do crazy diets. Count calories and focus on: lots of fruits and veggies, lean protein, and whole grain carbs. I would also limit alcohol and eating out in the beginning to help you get a jump start.

My FH has lost nearly 60 lbs since January and I have lost 20 lbs. We have also kept if off from May (original wedding date) until now!

If you need more support, then I recommend WW.

You can definitely workout without a gym! I've lost 32 lbs since February by doing the following:
    1. JJ Smith's 10 day Green Smoothie Cleanse
    2. Walk 2.5miles 1-3x/week wearing the tank and leggings from Sweat Shaper (the TRUTH!) 3. Post 10 Days of smoothies, transitioned to the 6wk Eat to Live Aggressive Weight Loss menu (whole foods plant based, no oil, sugar or salt...no animal products)4. Added booty and body resistance bands from Arena Strength (but you can get any ones you like) and downloaded the Resistance Band app (free) and do 20mins 2-3x a week
I haven't even been SUPER consistent with the workouts, it's mainly been change in diet. I tried Keto too, but have stage IV endometriosis and the salt, meat, and dairy caused too much inflammation. I feel amazing! FH is doing it with me and he's lost SO MUCH! Pic is when I first tried by dress 2/9/2020 vs yesterday 7/17/2020 - consistency is key! I've been struggling with weight since I was a teen and now I'm 41...KEEP GOING, DONT GIVE UP, LEARN TO MAKE IT A TOP PRIORITY, ABOVE tastings and celebrations and family gatherings...learn to say no and bring your own food. YOU CAN DO THIS!!Weight loss?! 1

I am with you on the thyroid bus, during my teens I had Graves and was overactive now I am under, I am on meds since part of my thyroid was killed with radiation. One thing that works for me is cutting my sugar on drinks and foods, I will not drink anything besides water and unsweetened tea, I'll have one cheat day where I can drink something more to go with my meal. I will cut the snacks too not completely because I cant but I will limit what I will snack on. I portion my food and take my time eating it.

One thing for certain look for a new endo, your body will signal you on what it needs. Example recently I was napping a lot turns out I was under on my thyroid and had to be adjusted. The biggest example was during my teens I was running a million miles per minute on my high thyroid so much so that I was dropping weight like crazy. Then it began to effect my memory I decided my regular doctor was not cutting it, they kept saying everything was fine that I was stressed from school. I was only failing one class in school, gym, I had energy but no endurance or coordination, turns out after I got my new doc I was able to fare a lot better. I didn't trip over air, or loose my way on my block.

Youtube has amazing simple workouts that increase in time, some you do while dancing to hip songs on the radio this is my go to on winter or yucky outdoor days. Wish you the best.

If you’re not opposed to using medication you should find a clinic that oversees phentramine diets. It worked wonders for me! I lost about 25 pounds in a month and a half. When I got off I was worried it would all come back, but it stayed off and I’ve continued to lose weight.
