Weight Watchers vs. MyFitnessPal

Looking for opinions from anyone who had tried both and which you had more success with. I have tried mfp and it worked but it was a bit tedious. I am using WW now, and it is easier to follow and use, but the scale is not moving at all. How did these two tools compare for those who have used both?

My fitness pal and WW are very similar in that they both track macronutrients. WW will be more peronalized and give you guidance where MFP will just function as a tracking tool. I have only used MFP and had great success. I would reccomend using WW for guidance and then when your trial is over, Continue tracking with MFP.

I've been on Weight Watchers for about a year and a half and have lost 65 lbs. I love it and advocate for it whenever anyone asks! Nothing else has worked for me in the past. Easy to use and track. Allows me to eat whatever I want (within reason and quantity) and their Connect page is so encouraging and inspiring.

Personally, I really like weight watchers mainly because of the weekly points feature. It helps me live my life but still lose weight. I don't have to stress about every outing, party and happy hour. You could also try for one week to track both points and calories to see if your allotted points are adding up to too many calories. Some of the "free foods" can be the culprit for a stall - especially with chicken and eggs being free. It may not be worth the extra hassle though!

To Priscilla's point, I highly recommend a combination of both. WW is awesome because it holds you accountable, but at the end of the day, it's always about a caloric deficit, and you should still be tracking your "0 point" foods.

I lost 60 lbs with WW several years ago and have kept it off. I would strongly suggest WW if you need a full lifestyle change. It teaches you to cook, balance splurges, and approach "dieting" from a more holistic perspective. Not all calories are equal, but tools like myfitnesspal push you more in the direction of total caloric intake, vs a more holistic "healthy vs not healthy" approach like weight watchers. Plus, the new program they launched this year is AWESOME!

Myfitnesspal just tracks things. Sounds like maybe you need someone to push you a little harder- keep you accountable. I would try joining a gym class, or look on meet up for other people with the same goals. Working in groups is so helpful!!

I just started MFP in January. I have a recent injury and can't do the exercise classes I used to do until I'm healed so I thought that it would be helpful for me to keep a food diary. I lost 3 pounds in January just by tracking my food intake. I think the ritual of tracking my food intake has just made me more conscientious of the food I eat.

I cook a lot so the idea of having to calculate weight watchers points sounds like a pain in the butt. I guess it's just your preference.

I lost 10lbs for a friend's wedding after not being able to exercise (broken foot) with Weight Watchers! I am now engaged and using it again. I highly recommend this to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle! After a few weeks of tracking points in WW, you start to eyeball things, but I would recommend staying accountable and tracking points to be sure you're eating the right stuff! It's pretty awesome too with the support system in the app or in meetings!

I used to HATE lifting and tolerate cardio. Now I've done a 180 I love lifting. I found a boot camp class (I got to burn boot camp, but there are a ton out there) and it's really helped me keep interested and keep from getting bored.

I'm considering weight watchers for the same - let us know how it goes!

I think it totally depends on your strengths, weaknesses, and lifestyle. A few years ago I lost about 70lbs just by using MFP and my fitbit together to make sure I got 10,000 steps daily, hit all my goals on Fitbit and never went over calories on MFP. If I ate more I'd walk, run, jumping jack, etc until I wasn't over anymore - this lead to some weird nights of literally running in circles around my house, but it worked for me then. I'm finding I'm having more trouble this time so I'm also considering Weight Watchers for something different. I also use instagram, I have a separate weightless account, to hold me accountable and for the community. It's been great. I think it's really just about finding what you will stick with and what works for you personally. They both have their positives and negatives.
