Weird for groom’s mother to officiate wedding?

Cass, on September 13, 2023 at 7:57 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5
My fiancé and I are having a destination wedding. The important people in our lives are already in our lines and we want our officiant to be able to speak about us a couple. We thought having his mother officiate our wedding would be special since she knows us well and is great at public speaking. Is this weird?

There’s nothing weird about it. Make sure it’s legal in your state because not all states recognize a friend or family member as being a legal officiant.

I literally went to a friend's wedding where the groom's mother was the officiant. It was very nice and touching.

My aunt officiated my cousin's wedding. It was lovely and not weird at all.

My mother-in-law was our officiant, lol. She's also a judge, so it worked out. We asked her, specifically, because of how well she knows us since the beginning of our relationship

I’ve been to several weddings where a parent or close family member officiated. There’s nothing weird about it.
