Weird Wedding Choices

Georgia, on October 4, 2019 at 11:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 41
What's something that you and your FH decided to do for your wedding that some of your family members or friends might have thought was weird or goofy. We decided on Chick-Fil-A catering for our wedding and my mom thought we were crazy when we told her. "Wedding food is supposed to be nice and something that everyone will love to chow down on" and I responded with "Who doesn't want to chow down on waffle fries and chicken sandwiches, mom?" It's also saving us tons of money on food! It might be goofy or weird to not have the traditional steak and chicken options but oh well!

Mine is also the food but it's not really weird. My dad and a few other older relatives are turning their noses up at quiche. And I'm all like... it's eggs with cheese and bacon. How could you not like it?!

Honestly waffle fries sound amazing aha I love their waffle fries there. There were quite a bit of things I did that weren't weird but not things our parents were used to, basically. I walked down the aisle alone which is common now but they were surprised. I didn't change outfits aha which in my culture is expected.

I personally would jump for joy if I went to a Chick-fil-a catered wedding! I live in the South where we have a tradition of a groom's cake. We're skipping this and my mom insists it's the right way to do things Smiley laugh

Yeah my grandparents have some very specific expectations of what a wedding should look like but like, oh well, it isn't their wedding. My grandma was really surprised that I'm having my dad and my brother both walk me down the aisle, instead of just my dad.

Hahaha I live in the south too and my mom is from Oklahoma so she's like "the grooms cake HAS to be an armadillo" and my FH is like "okay but I want a football not an armadillo"

We had mini hot dogs for midnight snacks (my favorite food of all time). We did a choreographed dance for our first dance (not weird, just unheard of for our friend group).

Black is my favorite color, so our wedding colors are very very dark. People seem offput by the lack of color in my wedding. It's black, plum, white, and gold. I love it, though!

    Chick-Fil-A sounds awesome!

I'm 44 and my fiance 42. We've both been married before, but this is my first wedding :-). Since we are older and have been dating for 8 years (living together for 6) - we decided to have a joint bachelor/bachelorette party. We were really excited to plan a pub crawl for all of our friends. One of our close friends loudly told my fiancee how lame and stupid our party is going to be. It was pretty hurtful....... what is wrong with people?? It seems weddings bring out a lot of opinions from people who don't get a vote. This is OUR celebration. We'll be going on a pub crawl and it's going to be fantastically fun.

We're doing a mac and cheese bar for our dinner. I feel like a lot of people either love it or think its so strange. My grandma apparently thinks its the most ridiculous thing in the world. She was visiting my parents house while FH and I were home for some tastings and just kept making "subtle" digs at us for it. Even went so far as to say she needed lobster for one of her toppings. But FH and I love mac and cheese, so if she wants lobster, she can bring her own.

We are having a pig roast for dinner. And after the reception we are having a bonfire. People think it’s “too redneck”. I think it’s perfect.

My Grandma doesn't understand why my wedding is "Harry Potter" themed. She is highly religious and I think she assumes I am? She kind of got upset with me that I am a "Wiccan", which I'm not -- but she is assuming because of the magical and spells theme of the wedding that it's uh... more than meets the eye. I guess?

Also, people have kind of griped that it's outside in October (it's tomorrow!) and have been worried about the weather. I mean, it says that we're supposed to have a bit of rain but I'm not too worried -- we have a gazebo and a tent.

I'm hoping (fingers crossed) to have our college mascot make an appearance to help get the dancing started again after dinner. Unfortunately, we won't know until a couple months out if this is possible.

I'm not doing anything really weird in my opinion, but boy do others' opinions differ! Lol. We are having country fried steak (with white gravy), fried chicken tenders (with all the dipping sauces), green beans, smoked gouda mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. Oh and of course salad and bread) and we've had some comments about how it isn't fancy wedding food. Whatever. We wanted comfort food so that's what we're having lol. And then my mom about had a cow when I told her we are having cornhole at the wedding. She said it's too redneck. And I'm like "welllllll we are rednecks so....". And we are also skipping the grooms cake. It seems like a waste, fiance doesn't even like cake, and between the wedding cake, the cupcakes, the cookies, the churros, and the hot chocolate, I think there will be plenty.

Lobster mac and cheese is actually a thing, though. There's this steakhouse near me that does lobster mac that's delicious!
