Weird wedding gifts

Who else has gotten some odd wedding gifts? Today we received a card with $30 worth of $2 bills inside. I mean, they're super cool and I don't want to spend them, but I guess I just keep them forever?? Lol. In my eyes a $2 bill will always be worth $2. But hey maybe they will be worth something one...

Who else got some weird gifts?

ETA: I thought I should bring up the fact that someone got my sister baby clothes for a wedding gift. It was so weird. Lol

$2 bills bring a year of good luck. I save everyone that has ever come into my possession. The person gave you 15 years of good luck!

My uncle who is deceased used to collect $2 bills. My dad got them after he passed. I know they aren't worth anything more than $2 but I love that we have them, it's a connection to my uncle. Seeing this post made me smile and remember him.

My grandma, who is no longer with us, gave me a $2 bill. It wasn't pristine, but I've carried it in my wallet for probably close to 12 years now.

Now my uncle, whom I've now written out of my life, gave be some amount of $2 bills for a birthday, all pristine. They got cashed into the bank...

When I used to work at a bank, some of the older folks used to always come in requesting $2 bills for special events (ie. wedding, birthdays, graduations.) Never quit understood the fascination, but they thought it was fun and unique.

DH's aunt gave us a little flower arrangement made of seashells -- like a Florida souvenir. We live here, she did not. ???

I give my nieces cash and a token gift for Christmas. It comes with a short note, and they look forward to it every year. One year I gave them granny panties with $2 bills in them. The note read "Here's hoping this is the only #2 you get in your underwear"

This is a little more gross than weird, but we got a crystal bowl from one of my aunts that was obviously not new. I do think it's sweet to hand down a family heirloom, but this one was dirty and smelly. H and I didn't understand how crystal could smell so strongly of dog.

Then my mom told us that this aunt has turned into a TLC show-level hoarder. Grime and trash everywhere, kitchen sink broken so dishes are never washed, her dog losing hair in clumps and shitting all over the house...I'd say we got off lucky only receiving the crystal bowl.

2 new Nerf guns. It was probably the thank you note I had the most trouble writing.

Rebecca, maybe the giver had something like this in mind?

My great grandma always told us they were represented good fortune! No idea if that's true or not though!

Jacqui, I'm honestly not sure what the intent was. They're huge. They were from an attorney I used to work for and he gave his nieces and nephews swords for Christmas. He gave his toddler nephew nunchucks. I think he just likes weapons a little too much.

@elizabeth since you love the bowl, I'll ask advice. Do we display it or actually use it? @eb I'm not surprised that it's worth a lot. My grandad has an incredible art collection and still wears tailored suits at 93. It's just unfortunate for me that I'm not a fan of the western style artwork.

ETA: and yes, definitely looks like a dinosaur pelvis

Weirdest gift we got-- my Jewish cousin gave us (both atheists) a unity candle, which I associate with Catholic weddings. Now, maybe she didn't know that, being Jewish and younger (and thus having attended fewer weddings), but it still felt odd.

Zoe, I've used unity candles a few times in my civil ceremonies. They do not have to have a religious connotation. You can light it each year on your anniversary.

During the reception, my uncle handed my husband a huge wad of cash. They were all $10 bills, and it came out to $300 total.

Zoe, the unity candle is not a part of the Catholic liturgy. It gets added in by request but it's not a Catholic thing.
