Weird/sort of gross manicure problem

jona, on September 14, 2017 at 6:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

So my wedding is on 10/21/17, and this morning I was cutting a bell pepper to make soup in the crockpot before work. I slipped and cut off 1/4 of the fingernail on my left middle finger. It bled and is pretty hideous. I know people probably don't care, but should I put a fake nail on for the wedding, or wear a band aid? I seriously don't know what to do, and it's of course on my left hand. I'd appreciate any advice!

I wouldn't wear a bandaid. If it will look funny painted then have whoever is doing your nails put a fake one on over it.

That is a little weird but accidents happen! I would personally do fake nails so my nails all looked uniform for photos and such. Good luck!

I would be worried about infection from putting a fake nail over an open wound. But I would think that your nail should be healed/grown back before then, no?

    No bandaids, maybe a manicure.

You have a month. Depending on how quickly your nails grow, it might not be that noticeable by the wedding.

I didn't have any close up pictures of my hands from our wedding. If you plan on taking a lot of hand pictures then maybe get a fake one.

I know that feeling. I would definitely not wear a bandaid for wedding. You have a month and you would be suprised how quick nails grow back. I would make sure to clean it and out lots of Neosporin. See how it looks over next few weeks. Worse case you wear nails which isnt really a worst case. Sorry OP!

Give it a few weeks and see how much it has grown back by then.

Good news is that a good photographer can work some Photoshop magic so that any closeups of your left hand don't have a huge gaping wound, but I don't think I would stick a fake nail on top of an injury like that.

It should be healed by then--just have the manicurist paint over the skin where nail would be. One of my bridesmaids actually had a similar issue and no one who wasn't examining her hand would have noticed part of the nail was missing.

It's pretty far down the down the nail, but I bet you guys are right, it will hopefully be a lot less noticeable then. Fake nails sort of creep me out, but I don't want this snaggle nail weirding people out either. I will just meticulously clean and protect it and hope for the best. Thank you!

You just told my story, OP. Four weeks ago, I was cutting back that big hedge in the garden with a pair of garden snips, and guess what I cut? The middle finger tip on my left hand. I immediately bandaged it and didn't even realize that I'd sliced off 75% of my rather long fingernail. I removed the nail and kept it bandaged for two more weeks. I almost took the tip of the finger off.

Crisis: My son got married last Saturday night -- three weeks into the slice. Because all of my other nails are natural and long, I wasn't going to cut them all. I bought a set of false nails, a light pink with glitter at the top, and glued one to that middle It looked great, and it's still there -- almost a week later (thank God for the trend of having one or two different nail styles). All night long I received compliments on my manicure. Unfortunately, I think I did some nerve damage to the finger tip, but this fake nail makes it easy to type because the skin isn't hitting the keyboard and tingling.

Go for it. You'll even love the pics that show your hands, lol.

I damn near did the same thing a few weeks ago. My finger healed in 3 weeks. Make sure you use Neosporin and keep the wound clean. I think you'll be fine by 14 Oct to add an acrylic.

By the time it's close enough to your wedding it will be healed but might be kind of short, at that point you can put a fake nail just on that finger and trim it so it's the same length as the rest of your natural nails.

I cut the side of my thumb nail slicing veggies on a mandolin not too long ago and I am shocked at how quick it grew back. Bandage it now and re-assess when the day gets closer. You might be surprised.

    Also: what up date twin!

You have time for it to heal. Get fake nails put on right before your wedding. You could also just do that nail and keep it short.

Agreeing with PPs. Let it heal until right before the big day and if the nail isn't uniform at that time, hopefully the nail will be healed enough for a tip.

I would do a fake nail, but honestly it is probably going to improve quite a bit in over a month. I would just wait and see where you are the week before then decide. I'm sure you won't need a band-aid by then.

This is so weird - about three weeks ago, I did the exact same thing. Mine was really deep though (stitches required - some through the nail) and it has not fully healed yet. Stitches came out last week, but I can't imagine putting a nail over it just yet. I could see it getting there in another week and a half (about a month total) though. I think you're going to have to play it by ear honestly. I don't think it's a big deal to have a band-aid, they make very good flesh-colored finger bandages that lay very flat. I've been using those and it's very close to not wearing one.

I did this a year ago. Get liquid bandage. it creates a coating tough enough that should you feel the need to paint over it, you aren't risking polish in a wound. That sucks so bad, I'm sorry!
