Welcome bag delivery fee?

I'm doing a final review of our contract with our venue (ceremony & reception will both be held at this hotel) and it says there is a $5 delivery fee for each hospitality/welcome bag. Has anyone heard of this before? We'll be preparing the bags ourselves and simply dropping them off to be given to each guest that checks in. Is this a normal fee?

It depends on if the hotel is union or not. If it's a union property, they union contract probably requires that a bellman deliver them and hat they get a set amount of money per bag. Depending on how many they have, it can seriously take quite a bit of time. Plus, the desk team needs to assign the rooms, make sure their clean, and cover the bellman when they're delivering. There's a lot more work that probably goes into it other than just the front desk handing them to the guest.

Our ceremony and reception were both held a hotel. The would have charged a $3 delivery fee, per bag. That was over 3 years ago. We didn't bother with them.

    1. The contents probably wouldn't have been worth $3 each

    2. We had 52 rooms booked, in our (deeply) discounted room block. Over 90% of them were for local guests, who wanted the convenience of staying over one night.

    3. We got a gift bag, at one out of town wedding we attended, a few years before. Since we were only there from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning, we didn't use 75% of the stuff, and threw it out, rather than pack it in our suitcases.

    4. Our venue was a 5-star hotel. They offered a complete set of complimentary toiletry items, along with a coffee maker and their famous macrons, room service, plus a stocked honor fridge.

I work at a hotel resort with two wings and over 500 rooms. I am personally in charge of delivery services for Groups and Weddings. I can attest that hand delivering bags is no small task. Especially if they are expected prior to a guest checking in and/or if they are name specific, on separate floors or in different wings of the hotel. The delivery is in addition to the tasks that you already have to do and you want to ensure that they are delivered promptly and neatly. Having that delivery charge (aka tip for each bag) is so nice, being that you are running your butt off and also making sure you don't damage the bag or its contents.

Yes, it's crazy. Most have now gone up to $6.00 a bag, If there's a way you can find out what room each guest is in you can have some groomsmen deliver them. Most likely the hotel won't tell you. You can leave them with the check in counter and they charge you $1.00 less. Wow- big deal! It's very frustrating these days. Everything has gone up and the help has gone away.
