Welcome bags for guests?

Kelly, on February 21, 2021 at 9:57 PM Posted in Planning 1 14

I’m having a destination wedding later this year. I kept seeing on blogs that making welcome bags is a nice gesture for guests who have traveled a long way. So far, this is what I plan on putting in my bags:

- a thank you note and itinerary for the weekend- a small card with emergency contacts - bottled water- my fiancé and I’s favorite snacks (Kettle Corn and Oreos)- an emergency kit with a facial wipe, hand sanitizer, stain remover, Tylenol, and a powdered electrolyte packet for hangovers
Is this an okay welcome bag? Is there anything you’d want that isn’t in there? Also, should I make a bag for each guest or should I make a bag for each couple?

I think that all sounds great! You pretty much have it all covered: snacks, water, itinerary/welcome note, and emergency kit. I would do one bag per couple.

I think you’ve covered all the bases & would give 1 bag per couple but put 2 of everything (Tylenol, electrolytes etc) in the bag.

All of this sounds great. I would just make sure to have 2 water bottles and 2 electrolyte packets in each bag if you do one bag per couple. The rest of the goodies can easily be shared Smiley smile

Sounds like you have it covered well. I agree with the PPs I'd have 2 of each for the main staples in the bags

Will a welcome bag serve as a wedding favor?

That sounds perfect! I agree with the above suggestions on 2 water bottles and then you are good. I’ve always gotten one welcome bag per couple at destination weddings. And don’t be tempted to go overboard and do more- then it becomes a burden on guests with things to bring home from the trip!

Yeah that was the plan. I heard that guests mostly ignore favors and I didn’t want to give them something extra to pack going back home.

Neither of us have heard of received these at any weddings we have been to. While it's a great idea, we are debating justifying the expense..because it's not something we or our families/friends are familiar with or would miss if it wasn't there.

One bag per room is sufficient. Maybe double up on contents if more than one guest is there. Talk to the hotel about distribution. You can get bulk supplies at Costco.

I went to a wedding in UK traveled from Mexico and the bride never gave us welcome bags, but she went to all the tables of people that traveled and they said on the speech thank you for all the ones that traveled so far to see us getting married.
I do think you do not have to spend your money at all on this bags, you only have to be nice and say thank you for making an effort to come Smiley winking
My family are travelling too for my wedding so I will do the same thing... say thank you!

A map of the area would be nice with the events marked on it (if they aren’t happening at the hotel).

We did one bag per couple and just put 2 of everything in it. Love your ideas of what to put in them.

Are you flying to your destination is it still in the US? We are have a destination wedding as well because our wedding is out of the country we had limit whats in the bags. One bag per couple should be fine. You don't have to completely fill the bags. They will appreciate whatever you give them.
