We are only having my sister traveling back home so I’m not doing it, but I think it’s a nice touch if people have the time and funds.

since some are now stating they plan to stay at the same hotel as us that night so I may put a hangover bag in the rooms

Depends on the wedding. If it's camping style or at a summer camp venue, I think it's a good idea to use welcome bags to provide basic things like bug spray, flashlights, etc.
Otherwise, cheap knick knacks are always pointless to me.

This. I have gotten these as a guest before and it's usually some pain relievers, some water, and granola bars/candy/chips which is nice to have. You can buy the stuff in bulk so it comes out pretty cheap.

Doing them for our hotel with the block. FH also wanted to make them for guests staying at a different hotel in the area.

Overrated. Seems like another ploy from the wedding industry to squeeze more money out of couples.

Depends on what you put in them! I think if you keep them nice and simple, then I think they are great

Underrated! I had a destination wedding so I had a welcome bag for all rooms. Not necessary but my guest not only loved it but found it sooo useful. I skipped favors and just did an all in one.

Overrated. We are skipping this, and I think this is just an unneccesary expense.

No firm opinion on it. I think if you can afford it and have a lot of out of town guest it’s a nice gesture but doesn’t have to be a necessity since you are hosting and paying for a party.

Overrated - we're skipping them. We're already providing our guests with food, favors and endless beverages on our wedding day. I don't think it's necessary to provide additional swag to our guests

Overrated. 95% of our guests are from out of town and there's now way I'm sending them back with glassware and unnecessary things to pack.

I don't really know on this! But love reading others opinions, as I have been torn on this.

I'm in the middle – I think overrated because it's an unnecessary expense. But underrated because I think it adds a nice personal touch and makes your out of town guests feel welcome. I think they're cute when you pack them with local items that will remind your guests of the destination and the couple!
