We went to an out-of-town wedding and there were welcome bags. Simple white bags with a couple waters and some snacks. Nothing fancy but it was much appreciated and unexpected. I don't think its absolutely necessary and your guests won't be disappointed if you don't do it. If you feel like you absolutely must do something, maybe do a written (or typed if you have a ton) note expressing your gratitude that they will be joining you and that you can't wait to share your special day with them. Cheaper than a bag and meaningful?

I vote yes for welcome bags. A lot of our guests are traveling from out of state (and their first time to TX) so ours is totally TX themed. Blue bonnet seeds, pralines, Dr Pepper, HEB snack, TX coffee blend, etc. It’s also a good way to include a wedding weekend itinerary for your guests regarding upcoming events taking place.

Overrated, we are skipping these because we are on a tight budget and would prefer if we didn’t need to spend any needless money.

Overrated, but thoughtful. Another thing that if you have the money, then go for it

Both. They are overrated if you're having a local wedding with local guests.
They are underrated if you're having a DW and people have to travel far to your wedding.

A little overrated and unnecessary but cute if it's in your budget

Underrated! our friends/family are spending hundreds to thousands of dollars to fly their whole families here for the wedding from TX, VA, and Cambodia... but they don't have to! the least i can do is get a bag together with some goodies. i am making 7 bags, and each kid will get their own drawstring backpack with some toys in them. i am using $1 reusable Utah state tote bags from Trader Joes and will fill with water, candies, soap etc that they may want after a long flight. I have received them before and it is always so appreciated.

I wanted to do them for my wedding, but just ran out of time. If you can afford it in your budget, it does add a nice touch for the traveling guests. Definitely not necessary. No one misses it if you don’t.

Definitely overrated. May seem selfish but we are already paying for everyone to eat and party. I think it is unnecessary for time and budget. It’s probably gonna be something cheap that someone could enjoy for to seconds or just be thrown out. I would rather keep that extra money and spend it on our parents gifts or wedding party or honeymoon or house.

Overrated! It is definitely a nice gesture for people who are traveling for your wedding, but I don't think these should be expected considering how much money you end up paying per guest.

Overrated. I didn't even know these were a thing until a week ago.

Overrated. Though I appreciated that people wanted to travel (only an hour or less for most) it was not mandatory they spend the night so I didn't find it necessary to do this.

Honestly I think they're a little overrated. They're super cute and a nice little surprise for your guests traveling far, but they're not totally necessary.

I have never seen one in person so if I received one as a guest, I would be thrilled. Same for most people we know. I don't think they're necessary though unless you have the extra money that you absolutely feel you must spend on them.
