I’m hosting a Welcome BBQ the day before the wedding since basically all of my guests are from out of town. It’s supposed to be a little intro to our little town of Eureka Springs. How do you all handle guests who are vegan at a BBQ buffet?! I’m ordering from a BBQ Pit so literally everything has meat, dairy, or eggs in it except maybe the baked beans… They don’t have grilled vegetables. I don’t exactly want to overhaul the menu for 1-3 people, should I order food especially just for those select few? That’s what my reception is doing but it’s plated service so it’s not such a big deal. I’m not sure how to handle it for a buffet.

We just hosted a Fourth of July bbq and my fiancé's brother is vegan (my fiance is a vegetarian so he ate these options too) here were some of the simple dishes we had available:

    Green Salad

    Spinach Rice

    Fresh Fruit Plate

Pasta salad with veggies and vegan salad dressing

    Fresh Veggies and Hummus

    Guac and chips

    Veggie burgers with vegan cheese

    Chickpea salad

    Corn on the cob

    Sweet potato fries

For dessert there were popsicles and vegan brownies

We also had plenty of meat options and some mayo based salads for the non vegans. If you can't have a veggies burger then focus on some nice sides that can be turned into a meal. Good luck!

Agree with this. If you are not willing or able to accommodate someone on your dime as hosts, don’t invite them. The same as if you were hosting this in your home.

There are a lot of vegan options out there now, you could do a vegan plant based burger or have a vegan pasta salad available to offer your guests. I also have vegans and vegetarians at my wedding and we're doing a BBQ. So our place did offer grilled veggies, but we added on a veggie pasta, as well as so they could enjoy the time fully. See if your local grocery has any options without dairy, eggs or meat and get a couple of ribs of whatever they suggest. If it works for the vegans it'll work for the vegetarians as well... easy peasy!! Good luck and have fun.

Not wierd at all! Have the caterer hand it to the vegetarian/vegan folks beforehand so no one accidentally grabs it! 😃

Perfect! That’s what I’ll do! I’m glad I’m doing online RSVPs that forces them to answer dietary restrictions. I’d be in trouble if I didn’t know who were vegan and whatnot.

Not at all! She should appreciate you thinking of her and getting her food!

I eat mainly vegan and majority of the time there is no vegan food at parties which is expected. I usually eat beforehand or bring my own food and heat up in a microwave it’s not a huge deal. It is a pleasant surprise when they do have vegan options. So in reality you don’t have to accommodate as they probably expect there not be much or any options. Being vegan you expect this pretty much everywhere you go. You can always provide a salad like others mentioned and fruits! If you really want to go out of your way they sell beyond and impossible meat for burgers at Costco.

This really shouldn’t be that hard. But I’m super glad you are considerate enough to be inclusive to your vegan friend! I see in the comments that you already decided on a vegan burger. Just to prevent contamination, grilled their burger(s) first!

I'm not cooking anything. I'll be buying it from another BBQ place.
