We are hosting a two hour Welcome dinner buffet opened to all guests. That being said, I'm not sure how I'd feel about people straggling in way after the start time (ie 30 mins, an hour, an hour and half). I know it is a more casual event but I also don't want to create a food hall /summer camp cafeteria type of vibe as people stroll in and out!
To prevent that, I am thinking of on the invite to just put the start time without an end time, and ask people to be on time. If you were a guest, does that feel rude or exclusive? Open to other ideas..
